John Freida Brilliant Brunette Visibly Deeper Colour Deepening Treatment

For the past year, I have been in the process of returning to my natural, dark brunette hair color, thanks to my super star stylist - Hi Tasha!

In between coloring appts, I was looking for a way to stop my hair from turning into a red, brassy nightmare. I already purchased the John Freida Brilliant Brunette Visibly Deeper Shampoo and Conditioner and love them. I am not so sure about the color depositing powers, but I love how soft, vibrant, and shiny that my hair is, so I will keep using it.

I wanted something a little more, and the red was creeping back up, so I decided to grab the 3rd item in this line, the Colour Deepening Treatment.

IMG_20180429_091723896_LL

My first impression was that I am an idiot. No, seriously. I read the directions, posted below for your enjoyment, and was super confused.

See the line - "Start with the blahblah Shampoo. Massage a generous amount of treatment..." OK-wait.

Do you RINSE the shampoo then apply the treatment and then rinse that out?!

OR

Do you shampoo in and then add the treatment and then rinse out together?!

I looked on the JF website...no help. I looked at the Ulta website..no help. So, I did the only logical thing left in my wheelhouse - I text my stylist and my co-worker stylist (Hi Kenzie!) and also crowd surfed the answer in a beauty group ( Hello, Coven!).

Aaaaaaaaaaand I got a slew of different answers, LOL.

IMG_20180429_091050247

Anyway, so I finally decided to proceed with caution. I shampooed my hair, rinsed it, added the treatment, rinsed it, then added conditioner and rinsed it. I know I didn't keep the treatment on for the full ten mins, I was in the shower after all, and I only have so many (2) legs to shave to occupy my time.

Check out my before (dirty messy hair - and also LEFT) and my after (blow dried hair, RIGHT):

IMG_20180429_095618852IMG_20180429_113036644

Do you see a difference?! I swear I do. The reddish tones are slightly faded and my hair looks a little more chocolately. Furthermore, my hair is SO incredibly soft, thick, lush, full, and every other positive descriptive word that I can think of - it's basically perfect.

Also, FYI, the product itself, once I decided how to tackle it, had no fragrance. It washed clean out without staining myself or my shower.

I do want to use this again, maybe in a week or so, and leave it on for longer, to see if there is a difference. I do have super thick hair, so perhaps I will shampoo, rinse, then get OUT of the shower and apply this for like 20 mins. Do you think that will help!?

Have you tried this or the blonde lightening version?! Any tips or suggestions for me to try next time?

Lacey

Mani Round Up: June 26, 2018

Hello!

It's been a wild week here...not sure my nails really showed off the craziness, but I did like what I chose.

IMG_20180617_222436711

Zoya Avril & Zoya Bela - I wanted to make the perfect color to match a shirt I wore, so I did two coats of Avril and added a coat of Bela for a perfect mauvey-peach. With three thin coats and topcoat, this mani looked like the perfect gel! Bela is so sheer that I probably should've done a 4th coat, but who has time for that?!

IMG_20180620_063637275

Illamasqua Collide: Hawt paaaaannnnnnkkk is always on my radar in the summer - actually, year round. This formula is flawless, as are all of my Illamasqua polishes. It doesn't need undies, applies flawlessly, and only needs two coats. It dries glossy, which is nice, but I did add my go-to G&G topcoat as well. Unrelated: this was near impossssible to photograph correctly, but this is pretty close.

IMG_20180621_212633957

Takko Lacquer Lavender Macaron: How pretty is this? Can someone please remind me to dig through my indie drawer once in a while? This is the lightest lavender with white flakkies in it. Totally reminds me of a My Little Pony, which basically means I love it. I did three thin coats and topped with G&G.

Mask(s) of the Week: Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding & The Creme Shop Turmeric Face Mask

Mask of the Week is my favorite!!

After a busy weekend, a double mask is a must for me! I incorporate both into my routine at different times.  First, I do a double cleanse and then apply my wash off mask - this week it was the awesome Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding.

IMG_20180608_203456102

It is a black and white product that you mix together to activate.

IMG_20180608_203517764

I love this stuff! It's creamy, feels thick, and penetrates the skin.

IMG_20180608_195746864_LL

LOL, I was also doing a hair treatment here. Thank God I won't be running for political office any time soon with these pics floating around. After I washed this off (in the shower), I did my routine of toner, essence, serum and then added The Creme Shop Turmeric Mask, which is lovely. It smells just a touch spicy, fits well, and leaves my skin super soft! Excellent one-two punch!

Wet & Wild Flights of Fancy Haul

Hello!

I have been trying to cut down on my makeup purchases, but I couldn't help myself when I saw the Wet&Wild Flights of Fancy promo shots! I looked at a million drugstores before I finally found the whole display, untouched, at my own Ulta store!! Haul & discount = yassssss.

IMG_20180609_193450213

I picked up two baked blushes, one lippie, and a shadow quad. Not too bad!

IMG_20180609_193539287

I chose Hummingbird Hype, the gold, and Don't Flutter Yourself, which is a pretty close NARS Orgasm dupe! These are shimmery! I would call these highlights much more so than blushes. They are swatched below Featherless, the gloss I picked.

IMG_20180609_193655836

Featherless is a nude leaning peachy pink gloss. It is incredibly pigmented, non-sticky, and no flavor. Plus, the barrel is adorable.

IMG_20180609_193556182

IMG_20180609_193906198

There were 3 or 4 quads, but I chose Flock Party because that raspberry color was calling my name! I love the matte, at the top, and the browbone highlighter is lovely as well. I haven't gotten the courage to use the raspberry shade in a #lewk yet, but I'll get there!

Did you pick any of these products?! I am pysched to have them and especially at such a reasonable price point.

Mani Round Up: June 19, 2018

I promised a much more stellar week than last, and I don't want to disappoint, so I whipped out some gorgeous indies!

IMG_20180609_212341725

Nire's Desire Lemon Ice: Last week, I went to cheer on the athlete's at the Special Olympics in New Haven, CT - go team Glastonbury! I wanted fun, cheerful, super bright nails. What other color is there besides neon yellow to fit the bill?! Two coats are all you need - no streaks, just a perfect polish.

IMG_20180610_205603304

Nire's Desire Lingerie:  Hello, gorgeous! You can't see it well in the pic, but this polish has the slightly pink tint to it that makes it SO flattering. Again, two coats are all you need for opaque perfection.

IMG_20180611_213248494

SuperChic Lacquer Fuchsure Drive Me Insane: Honestly, the name of the polish drives me insane but I looooove it. You can't see how bright the blue shift is here, but trust me, it's lovely. This is two quick coats and topcoat. So pretty!

IMG_20180613_223208179

Orly Prelude to a Kiss: Seriously, my favorite polish color ever. Now discontinued. I post this on Instagram with the following caption:

Dear @orlynails,
If you have any of this left at the warehouse, please let me take it off your hands and put it on mine. Thank you - #myboyfriendhatesmakeup.

I'll let you know if they respond! Fingers crossed!

IMG_20180614_210124652

Literary Lacquers As The Waltz Was Ending: Longtime readers (Holla!) will remember this glorious polish! I got to name and design the color and finish when Amy did her first Community Collection with polishes created by bloggers. I was so honored to be included and this polish is still so freakin' stunning. One of my Top 5 for sure!

BTW, I checked on the website and it is no longer for sale. Officially coveting mine and stashing my spare bottle away!!

Well, this was much improved over last week, right?!

Mask of the Week: Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Sheet Mask

So excited to share this mask with you!

IMG_20180605_202513907_BURST000_COVER_TOP

I splurged and spent $6 on a single mask!  That is a far cry from my usual max $2-3 for KB masks. Dr. Jart+ is such a good brand, and especially loved in the KB world, that I just had to try it. So glad I did!

Instructions are per usual:
IMG_20180605_202555436

Safe to use for sensitive skin - always a plus!

IMG_20180605_202606890

Ooh, this mask!  First, it was a heavy, almost cloth-like mask. It SAT on the skin and just hugged every curve of the face. There was a perfect amount of essence, which for me means the mask itself doesn't drip at all, but there's enough in the pouch to rub on my arms and legs.

IMG_20180605_205419634_LL

It was cooling without being cold, soaked without being drippy, clean smelling without being overpowering, and just everything you'd want in a mask. When I removed it, twenty minutes later, my skin was immediately glowy and felt just lovely.

I wouldn't splurge on this spendy mask for more than rare occasions, but it is really nice! Have you tried any Dr. Jart+ products?

Lacey

May 2018: Empties & Tossed Report

May was my attempt to use up some samples and some smaller items before they expired. I used up 16 items:

IMG_20180531_195104502

IMG_20180531_195307459

There are quite a few products from this month that I loved and would re-purchase! Sunday Riley Good Genes is amazing - we all know this, right? Chikyu Face Elixir Watermelon Oil is also awesome, but my roommate (my mommy) didn't like the scent, LOL. Chikyu also sent me a face wash sample that is awesome. Caudalie Vino Perfect Radiance Serum is quite delightful, with no scent and a penetrating, soothing feeling. Exuviance Evening Restorative Complex is a heavy nighttime moisturizer that I adore, and Glam Glow Volcasmic Matte Glow Moisturizer is another good one, although it does not play well under makeup for me.

IMG_20180531_195508405

I used 14 samples this month. Standouts include my longtime love, Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask, Clinique Moisture Surge, and the TonyMoly Goat Milk Premium Moisture Cream.

IMG_20180531_195648299

I am getting better at throwing things out! The Ulta Beauty On The Go Cleansing Makeup Remover Towelettes are legit awful, LOL. The Revlon Foundation Makeup is too light, it's OLD as hell, and needed to go. The Crazy Humors A La Mode Pistachio chapstick is super old. The Benefit Boing is old and way too dark for me. The Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt Mascara was also past it's prime and needed to go.

Month of May:

Totals: 16 items / 14 packets / 5 items thrown out

Empties Report Year to Date: 89 items / 64 packets
Thrown out Year to Date: 79 items

Mani Round-Up: June 12, 2018

Another week, another round up!

IMG_20180604_220049260

Cupcake Polish As Good As Rose Gold: How gorgeous is this! I decided to use this polish and then I chose my outfit the next day based on matching with the polish. Am I basic AF or what?! If I wasn't, asking it like that certainly just jostled me into the YASS category. This is three thin coats and topcoat.

IMG_20180607_230624023

Glisten&Glow Saddle Shoes & Sock Hops: Hello, perfect griege! I don't usually buy cremes from indies, but holy moly, G&G cremes are really delightful. If I wasn't painting my nails in bed and being extra careful, this could've been a one coater, but I did two thinner coats instead. This color is flattering, the formula is perfect, and it dries quickly.

So, this wraps up my lamest MRU to date! I wore the Cupcake Polish for literally 5 days, and only after I worked at Ulta and helped move shipment did I get a noticeable chip - but only on one finger! The Cupcake Polish was also tough to remove, so no wonder my mani looked fab all week.

Here's to more variety to report on the 19th!

Lacey

Mask of the Week: e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask

Mask time!

Short on time this week, but looking for a deep clean, I turned to the e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask.

I like the product fine, but I have some thoughts - namely, the packaging.

This mask comes in an awful dispenser. You push the top down and the product comes up from the middle. There is no way to actually use all of the product. As soon as the product hits the lid and the air, it begins to bubble, so you need to be ready to apply it quickly!

IMG_20180604_211330415

IMG_20180604_183311746

It takes just seconds for this mask to bubble and grow on your face. I tried to angle my face so you could see the thickness and richness of the bubbles, so I hope that works well for you. The bubbles are tingly and feel wonderful.

Another note, as I washed this off, I realized this is NOT an eye-safe product! My eyes stung like crazy and my skin was actually fairly red - although soft - after I rinsed. I have used this in the shower before with happier results, so I think it's getting tossed back in the tub.

All in all, for the price, my skin was soft but slightly irritated, and my eyes were just tore up!! I have my Exuviance Triple Oxygen Mask, too, which does the same thing. It's like $75 compared to this - I think it was $10 or under - but the Exuviance earns it's price tag compared to this one.

Have you tried it? Do you like it?

Lacey

May 2018: Favorites and Flops

Now that it is June, can we finally get some warm weather in Connecticut? No? Uh, ok...it's literally like 50-something degrees out and raining right now. There is no hope.

Anyway, now that I have thoroughly depressed myself, let us bring some brightness back in and let me show you my favorites (and a couple flops) for May.

IMG_20180531_194654927

Blistex Conditioning Lip Serum: Oof, this stuff is just magic. It feels like a primer or serum, it's got  silky feel to it, zero scent, and as it says on the packaging, literally ONE drop and your lips feel instantly refreshed. Of the approximately 2,830 lip balms I own, this is one of the top 10.

Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet: This bottle is a step up from a roller ball size and a step down from full size, perfect for travel. It smells fresh and floraly - the co-workers and the boyfriend all like it. I plan to keep this in my purse all summer. The applicator is a roller ball, too, which is nice.

Wet n Wild Matte Finish Setting Spray: Lately, my makeup has been looking cakey, and I think that's because I use an obnoxious amount of setting powder to achieve a matte, porcelain doll face. I decided to snag this $5 gem and see if I could get away with this instead of a powder, at least for the summer. So far, so good!

ELF Tinted Lip Oil in Pink Kiss: I just posted my review about this, too, if you want more details HERE, but suffice to say, it's just lovely. It has the tiniest bit of pinky color, applies and feels like a gloss/oil hybrid, and has a cute lil applicator. Nice! Swatched below:

IMG_20180531_194818977

Uh oh...time for the Flops!

IMG_20180531_194614152

Hard Candy Matte Drops: Again, in my quest to become a porcelain doll, I picked up these Hard Candy Matte Drops for about $6 at Walmart (of course, not my local one because it has the worst makeup displays ever). There is nothing "Drops" about this product - it's a thick, almost lotion-like product that laughs at the included dropper. If you wear it solo, fine. If you think you'll be able to add it to your foundation, don't bother. Womp, womp.

Ulta Beauty On-The-Go-Cleansing Makeup Remover Facial Towelettes: Looking back on past posts, I see that I included a version of Formula 10.0.6's wipes last Flops, too. Apparently I am super picky about my face wipes! These smell like old baby powder, they shed on you, and they remove NOTHING from your face!!

Anything you loved or hated this month!? Do you know the correct way to use the Hard Candy Matte Drops!? Drop a line in the comments.

Lacey

Mani Round Up: June 5, 2018

Hello!

This week I am determined to use the Zoya Sunshine collection.

IMG_20180524_220551582

Zoya Sandy: No one does the mid-tone, blue-based pinks like Zoya!! Sandy reminds me of a personal favorite, Shelby (also my dogs name), or Kitridge, but a little more lilacy. So very pretty, opaque in two quick coats, and fast to dry.

IMG_20180528_220728985

Zoya Clementine: I saw a Sunshine collex review where the blogger thought Clem was the highlight of the collection. I disagree, but it's pretty. It's so shimmery that it veers dangerously into metallic territory, which veers dangerously into streak city. It was sheer, so this is three coats and topcoat.

IMG_20180530_214017144

Zoya Virginia: I swear this doesn't give me lobster hands in real life!! In fact, I am legit obsessed with this color and plan to rock it all summer long! This is a perfect 1 coat creme, but I did two because IDOWHATIWANT. Love this one.

IMG_20180531_193352385

Zoya Karen: Do you see much of a difference between this and Virginia? This is the slightest bit cherry redder than the one above. I am surprised to see such close polishes in the same collection, to be honest. This applied beautifully, though, in two perfect coats. (I just swatched this so I could pass it on to my friend, Karen!)

IMG_20180531_202913493

Zoya Snow White: Zoya included this in the Bridal collection from the Spring that was mostly re-releases and one new shade, Brighton. Snow White is your regular white creme - every collection needs one. Is this the best? Not really - I actually think Sinful Colors does it better, but this is handy to have. Two coats as undies for the next color...

IMG_20180531_205456977

Zoya Loretta over Zoya Snow White: Huh..do you really see some color? I kinda don't. Loretta would be ideal for the bride who never wears polish but wanted to look slightly more polished (HA) on her special day. Meh to me!

IMG_20180602_141959665

For work on Sat., I just added a white, clearly freehanded, tip to mask the tipwear!

Lacey

Mask(s) of the Week: Exuviance Bionic Oxygen Facial and The Creme Shop Collagen Face Mask

I am a lady blogger, LOL, so I will go there right off the bat: You need different products for your face during thatimeofthemonth, right!? I know my face feels drier, needs more exfoliation, and also needs some blemish preventative - or to just combat a blemish altogether in case I miss it.

This week I went for Exuviance Bionic Oxygen Facial and The Creme Shop Collagen Face Mask after a double cleanse and "exfoliation" with Clinique's toner (that ish is brutal!!).

IMG_20180528_200848606

The Exuviance Bionic Oxygen Facial is a total splurge product! It is similar to pretty much every other bubbling mask, IMO.

IMG_20180528_200908033IMG_20180528_201124335

You allow the bubbles to form and then to dissipate, and then rinse to reveal glowing, bright, super soft skin.

I followed with my toner, essence, and serum, then I applied a sheet mask, The Creme Shop Collagen Face Mask.

IMG_20180528_205020852

There is some controversy is TCS is really a Korean brand, but I like it just the same. The mask itself is super thick and stays in place. There isn't too much serum but the mask stays damp throughout the 10-15 minute recommended usage.

After that, I removed the mask, rubbed in the serum, and applied moisturizer. I woke up to great skin!

Lacey

November 2018: Favorites & Flops

Hello! Can you believe it is December already?! There is literally less than a month until Christmas! Let me show you what I loved - and...
