Mask(s) of the Week: Ole Henricksen Firm Action Mask & My Beauty Diary Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Mask

The winter is really doing a number on my skin! I've been trying to multi-mask weekly just to keep up with the dryness.

This week I chose a combination of Ole Henricksen Firm Action Mask for my first, wash-off step and then a My Beauty Diary Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Mask for the sheet mask step.

Don't you all love the goofy face pics!? This is, obvi, a heavy cream mask that is a wash-off product. It feels rich and creamy on the skin and dries down in about 20 mins. It gets tight as it dries and is almost uncomfortable at the end of the wear time. There is also serious effort involved in the removal process, but the clean and clear skin you see after the rinse is worth it.

So.Much.Essence!!! MBD masks are well-known for the excess essence! It runs down your face the whole time, but it makes the mask dry as you use it, so it really feels like the product is sinking into the skin. Huge fan of how incredibly soft my skin was after using this. I do recommend the heck out of this one.

Props to both of these on their own, but the 1-2 punch really packed some moisture into my skin!

Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat Review

Today I have a short review of a much loved product in the polish community, the Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat! I got a sample to try out and wanted to share my thoughts.

This is quite the multi-tasker! You can use it as a basecoat, which I did and will, or use it by itself. It should help to strengthen the nails over time and it should immediately make the nails brighter and whiter with it's tinted formula.

Before you keep scrolling to see my pics, let me say that my nails are stained beyond belief! I keep them painted and pretty for just that reason! I clean and buff and soak in denture cleaner and no go - they just look like this now.  I didn't have much hope for the PF Pink Gel.

ONE coat:

Figures! Yep, this doesn't do much. It makes the pink of the nail pinker, but there are no white parts of my nails to brighten, LOL.

Hm...let's add another coat?

TWO coats:

Helpful! I can definitely see a difference in the photos and in person, too. My nails are still gross though, LOL, and I wouldn't wear them like that. If you're a normal person who has normal colored nails, this might be all you need to look polished and perfect! Me - not so much.

Well, since it isn't going to work solo for me, I will use it as a basecoat. For starters, I used three thin coats of Essie Ballet Slippers. It wasn't as opaque as I liked, so I also used the Pink Gel as a topcoat and then added a coat of G&G to speed up the process.

Used as topcoat over Essie Ballet Slippers:

It adds a finished and polished (heh) look that I really like! And in other lights, it makes the pink polish seem almost glowy or luminescent!

Isn't that pretty?! I will definitely use up this little sample. I am not 110% sure I will repurchase since I cannot wear this alone, but I certainly encourage others to try it! Will you pick this up? Have you tried it before?

Mani Round Up: April 24, 2018

Lame post coming up!

I was away on a trip with my besties, so my polish selection was pretty slim. I actually wore my NARS Ratin Jot until like Tuesday, and then did my nails. I left Friday night of last week and wore the same polish the whole time, but I'll post what I managed to use anyway.

Orly Dare to Bare: Love this! The perfect my-skin-but-better color, this creme polish is perfect in just two coats. The first is slightly streaky and looks alarming, but the second is creamy and opaque.

Zoya Missy: New Zoya, you say?! Why YES! Missy is part of the 12 piece Sunshine Collection that debuts now! This is two perfect coats and topcoat.

Same as last week, I was too busy to do my nails too many times, but look for more new Zoya coming up next week.

Just an FYI, I will be AFK until next week's Mani Roundup!!

#ShowYourSpringSkin April 2018 Instagram Challenge

Thanks to my KB group, I joined a super cool Instagram challenge that ran from April 8-17. It was hosted by KBeauties @vnlin_ and @kimono_kat.

I had a great time doing this so I thought I would re-cap the 10 day challenge here!

Day 1) FIRST CLEANSER: Y'all know my LUSH Cosmetics Ultrabland never leaves my routine. No matter what time of year, I use this constantly.

Day 2) SECOND CLEANSER: I haven't found a steady second cleanser that I love, so I do swap between a few. The Body Shop Vit E is creamy and the Cosmetea cleanser is a gel, which I think I will favor more come warmer temps.

Day 3) EXFOLIATOR: The Exuviance product is too strong for all over, so I apply that just on my nose. The SkinFood Pineapple Peeling Gel is awesome for once a week usage.

Day 4) TONER: This is another product that I need to work on for my routine. I haven't found any I love. This TonyMoly is too gel-like and thick for my liking, but I will keep using it.

Day 5) ESSENCE: This is my favorite step! I love the silky feel of an essence. My favorite, Boscia Sake Hydrating, is too expensive for me right now (My pupper has the 'betus) so I will continue to use up my back ups. I really enjoy the Vit E line from The Body Shop, but it's a little thick. The Secret Key is too liquidy and I have no idea where it goes in the routine.

Day 6) SERUM/AMPOULE: I am in lurve with the Scinic Honey AIO Ampoule! This product is raved about in my KB group so much that I finally just bought it. The reviews were well worth it and the hype is 100% legit! Love!

Day 7) MOISTURIZER(s): Yeah, that plural is all me. I like all of these for different reasons. The Body Shop Vit E line is just great. The GlamGlow Matte smells like creamsicle, the TonyMoly Seaweed Aqua Moisture is gentle, the Clinique Moisture Surge is great when you need a boost of hydration, the Mario Bedescu has collagen for extra anti-aging, and the Innisfree Orchid Lotion is also just lovely.

Day 8) SLEEPING MASK: I will use this more in the summer, so I thought it proper for the SpringSkin prompt. This is a gel mask that is light, refreshing, and moisturizing.

Day 9) SPOT TREATMENT: I am lucky enough not to need an arsenal of spot treatments, but I do keep CosRX Pimple Patches on hand always.

Day 10) YOUR CHOICE: I am beyond obsessed with the ElishaCoy Brightening Ampoule Mask! Guess where I got it?! CVS.

That's it! Love or hate any of these?!

Mani Round Up: April 17, 2018

Another week of interviews...more neutral (ish) nails!

Zoya Avery: Well, I def didn't realize how dry my cuticles looked b!! My nails are neutral and ladylike because I have another week of interviews. Avery is perfect in two coats and extra glossy thanks to Glisten & Glow topcoat. Expect a week of neutrals here!

Illamasqua Purity: I am in desperate need of a tan before I use this again. Sigh. I have had this bottle for years (seriously, like 6+) and it works perfectly still. I love every single Illamasqua polish that I own. This is two coats and topcoat.

Julie G Santorini: Do you think this counts as neutral?! LOL. No? Ok..well, I am the one doing the interview, not getting interviewed, so I rocked it. This is two coats and topcoat. There is a very subtle shimmer in here, but it's so subtle you can't really see it on the nail at all. Womp, womp.

NARS Ratin Jot:  How gorgeous is this? I have had this polish forever and ever but it is still perfect. This is two coats and topcoat. You guessed it, I had another interview to do!

Mask(s) of the Week: Exuviance Bionic Oxygen Facial & Missha Embo Gel Mask

Winter is so awful to the skin! I am definitely noticing differences in how my makeup wears throughout the day and how my skin just desperately sucks up moisture at night. I have been trying to be as nice to it as possible, double masking whenever I can!

I tried a 1-2 punch of the amazing Exuviance Bionic Oxygen Facial and a new to me brand, the Embo Gel Mask.

In K-Beauty lingo, the Exuviance Bionic Oxygen Facial is a BUBBLEMASK!! It bubbles up on the skin, thanks to oxygen activating the bubbles, and encourages cleansing of the pores and helps pull impurities out of the skin.

Normally, I love this treatment but after rinsing last night, my skin was shrieking at me for moisture! My skin felt much tighter than it normally does after using this. The Exuviance Bionic Oxygen Facial might be getting shelved until warmer temps hit.

I followed the Oxygen Facial with my normal routine of essences and serums. After the serums melted into my skin, I used the Missha Embo Gel Mask. This is described as a "nourishing bomb" of moisture.

I have thoughts! 1) The two pieces of gel, in this case, were super slippery and didn't cling to one another. Instead of being able to multi-task and remove my polish, like I usually do with a sheet mask on, I had to suspend all activity to keep this from slipping off my face. 2) There was surprisingly little essence on the mask or in the package. Maybe because it was gel? 3) My face did not feel properly nourish bombed. I've had much better results from much less promising sounding masks!

So, there you have it. This masking routine was not the most successful to date. I followed the sheet mask with my normal moisturizer before bed, but I actually woke up with some noticeable dryness on my cheeks.

I will definitely use my Exuviance as the temps warm up, but I wouldn't repurchase this sheet mask. Have you tried either product?

March 2018 Empties & Tossed Report

Time for the Empties Report!

Here is what I finished up this month in deluxe and full size products - 17 items:

And here are my favorites that I would re-purchase:

I already mentioned my love for the The Body Shop Japanese Camellia Cream in my Favorites & Flops post. It is a heavenly scented whipped body butter. I have recently started to love Kat Von D's Saint perfume, and my new beau loves it, too, so I am on my second rollerball bottle. I am obsessed with Boscia Sake Hydrating and Brightening Essence but it is $$$$!! Same for Exuviance Eye Contour and the Exuviance Line Smoothing Antioxidant Serum.

I finished 16 packets. The only stand out here is my Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask and again, $$.

I threw out 38 items! I went through my refridgerated LUSH stash and threw out old Kitchen items past expiration dates AND, in the case of The Comforter, I just don't like the scent. I admitted it.  I also threw out old lippies (not even worth donating). See that Urban Decay Pocket Rocket lip gloss? My Aunt purchased that in one of our trips to New York. I want to say in 2002?! Not even kidding. Buh bye.

Also, let it be known: I HATE MAYBELLINE BABYLIPS!! I tried and tried and purchased way too many but it's a chalky formula that tears up my mouth. SEE YAAA.

Month of March:
Totals: 17 items / 16 packets
38 items thrown out

Empties Report Year to Date: 64 items / 47 packets
Thrown out Year to Date: 69 items

Mani Round Up: April 10, 2018

Another week, another round up!

Zoya Zanna: I needed a professional, young, cool, mature, still me color for early this week. I am doing something out of the usual at work. THIS is it! I love Zanna and forget about it in my pink drawer. This is two easy coats and topcoat. Perfect every time.

Zoya Erika: I had to be professional again so I applied Zoya Erika. I love the subtle shimmer! Three thin coats and topcoat really make this beauty sparkle.

Essie Butler Please: This is my favorite cobalt or royal blue polish. The poor old bottle is about half used and old, so it needs a couple drops of thinner before use. Remember, get a polish thinner and do NOT use acetone to thin a polish - they are not one in the same product. I used two (thick) coats of Butler Please and topcoat.

Sorry for a lame-o week! I was struck down with a migraine from hell (as they all are) and the smell of acetone made me think scary thoughts. Here's to next week.

Mask(s) of the Week: The Body Shop Japanese Matcha Anti Pollution Mask, Manefit Honey Nutrition Mask, & Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask

What do I do when I have extra time!? Triple maaaaaaaaaask!

I am staying away from home a bit these days, and I definitely ignore my full skin routine when I am not home. I take just the basics and then make up to my skin when I have time.  Hopefully, it all works like that, LOL.

After having on heavy makeup, going out, etc, I really like to pamper my skin. I hate smokey places, too, and I know how bad they are for the skin (and lungs, ahem), so I started with my The Body Shop Japanese Matcha Anti-Pollution mask. You've seen this before.

I use this directly after my double cleanse.

It is COLD and tingly, not bothersome, but it is there. Your skin is cooled off when you remove this, so I can't wait to try it in the summer when I actually need some cooling. My skin is also brighter, fresh looking, and just lovely after I rinse. This also has some funky almost exfoliating products, too, so no need to exfoliate after or before use with this one.

I don't have a shot of my Manefit mask, which is OK because you've seen that before. HOWEVER - I don't have a picture because this specific mask was packed poorly and it was tangled IN the package. I tried to untangle it, only to stretch the mouth, eye, and nose holes too far to even use it. I tried to put the sheet mask on but it was such a pointless act that I scrunched it up and actually layed it on my face in sections. LAME.

After my sheet mask, I added moisturizer, eye cream, neck cream, then finished with my Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask, which you've also heard about before. Triple winner - minus the technical difficulties with the Manefit mask.

Have you tried The Body Shop masks or any from Manefit, from CVS, yet!?

March 2018: Favorites And Flops

Time for Favorites and Flops!

I am doing a No Beauty Buy April month, so I am going to show you the items that I didn't necessarily just purchase, but instead items that I reach for over and over. Those are the holy grail items!

This month is 4 Holy Grail items that I can't live without! Two are new, two are not, but all 4 have permanent places in my beauty rotation.

Sephora Colorful Cheek Ink Gel in Peony: Has this made it to the faves before? It should have! This multi-tasker can be used on cheeks and lips. It is a pretty light pink that brightens up my face. It is a cream, but fairly sheer, so I just dab a drop between my fingers and then pat along my cheekbones. I use whatever is left to pat on my lips for a touch of color. Swatched on my wrist below.

Bio-Oil: How did I live without this stuff?! Also a brill multi-tasker, I apply this on my face directly (thank you, New England Winter that won't end) and on my dry spots. It has hardly any fragrance but does feel slightly oily (duh) until it sinks in.

Lipstick Queen Date Night Lipstick in Good Catch: I saw this on display at Ulta and from the display photo, it looked like MYPERFECTPINK lipstick. Good news is - it is! I waited until we had testers at work and I wore it for a couple shifts before purchasing. It is a lightweight, creamy, pigmented, dream of a lippie. Huzzah! Swatched below.

The Body Shop Japanese Camellia Cream: This has also made it to the list before. I do need to re-purchase this but it won't be until May! This is a whipped butter consistency (they call it "velvet" but whatevs) that smooths on the body nicely, leaves no stickiness, and has the most heavenly smell ever.

Swatched are the Lipstick Queen Date Night Lipstick in Good Catch and Sephora Colorful Cheek Ink Gel in Peony below.

Flop time!

Formula 10.0.6 Keep Me Clean Clarifying Face Wipes: Ulta was out of my OG Wipe My Face Off with the grapefruit scent, so I tried these because they are also Formula 10.0.6. That was a stupid move! These smell different (not better), clean less (mascara left all over my face) and it took a whole second wipe to get my makeup off (too much waste). Back to the pink package for me!

What did you love or hate this month? Let me know in the comments!

Mani Round Up: April 3, 2018

Another week, another round of nails!

Color Club Hot Hot Hot Pants: This is the best version of a neon baby pastel pink that I have ever seen. It is a very creamy and opaque polish that only needs two quick coats. Love this one. I chose this because I had a meeting on Monday, but it was off-site, so I had to be fancy but business casual but also stay the young and hip person that I am. I think this did the trick quite well!

Illamasqua Pink Rain Drops over Color Club Hot Hot Hot Pants: It seems like once per week, I want my nails done without doing them. I added Pink Rain Drops (there is also a blue out there) over HHHP to change up the look. Love this polish, even more with a strong base below. This is two coats of Pink Rain Drops.

Chanel May:  Apparently the theme of the week was unintentional pink. Chanel May is just gorgeous, the perfect carnation pink creme. This is two quick coats and topcoat. Great polish!

SinfulColors White Board and Out The Door Black Hole: I saw a smoosh mani that a fellow polish lover did and thought it was time to try it. FAIL!!!!!! hahaha, I almost didn't post this since it's SO awful, but here it is!

OPI Nail Lacquer Super Cute in Pink: As expected, OPI's collab with everyone's favorite white kitty was full of cute and pink. Since my polish collection is 87% pink anyway, I only grabbed one from the release. I wore this color for Easter, too. This is two coats and topcoat. Love!

No Beauty Buy April

If I publish it, I will be more accountable...right?!

I have so many amazing trips with friends planned this year that my beauty buying needs to take a least for now!

Therefore, the month of April is to known as:

I stocked up on the necessities, like my Formula 10.0.6 Wipe My Face Off wipes and new shampoo and conditioner, so now I am set.

Mask(s) of The Week: Shea Moisture Instant Rebound Mask & Mask Pack Collagen Sheet Mask

Sometimes you just need to double mask!

To clarify, in case you've missed it, I am a skincare fanatic these days. I do a 9-ish step skincare routine, which usually includes a sheet mask, but there are days when I feel the need to double mask, too. In that case, my routine is as follows:

  • Face wipe to remove makeup
  • Oil cleanse
  • Cream cleanse
  • First Mask (a heavier, wash off, detoxing formula)
  • Toner
  • Essence
  • Emulsion
  • Serum
  • Second Mask (sheet mask, usually a hydrating or brightening formula)
  • Eye Cream/Neck Cream/Lip mask or heavy balm
  • Moisturizer and/or oil
  • Night Mask

I truly believe that the skin mimics the mind, so my overstressed mind often wrecks havoc on my skin. I found this Shea Moisture Instant Rebound Mask for sale at Ulta and grabbed it! It is specifically for skin and has dragon's blood and coffee cherry as the main ingredients. No idea what those actually are but after using the mask, I am all for them.

The consistency of the Shea Moisture mask is a thick cream. It smells fresh - not like cherry, coffee, or dragons - and applies easily. It does not dry down at all and therefore there is no tightening effect. It feels cool on the skin but doesn't make you cold (if you've experienced this, you know what I mean!) and rinses cleanly to reveal plump, moisturized skin.

I believe the brand of this is actually called Mask Pack, but please correct me if I am wrong. This is your typical hydrating sheet mask.

It came with little eye flaps, so I took the time to lay down and use the flaps - after the photo op, of course.

Excuse me for looking like a 90's grunge chick with my flannel, LOL, but CT is cold! You can see my skin looks super bright and clear after the double mask, and this photo was before my other 425 steps. Super happy with this combo!

March 2019: Empties & Tossed Report

I am continuing to try to use up products that have been laying around, including perfumes. So far, so good. Let me show you what I used in ...
