Soap Bars & Solid Shampoo From Haípažaža Pȟežúta

Hello there!

Before December ends and the monthly posts begin, I wanted to take a moment to shout out a small business in New Mexico that is offering amazing products and a company that you should definitely check out!

One of my NYE resolutions this year is to reduce waste. As much as I can, I want to eliminate single use plastics, like straws and plastic grocery bags. I am going to refuse a bag when I don't really need one. I am going to try not to use makeup wipes also, which will probably be my toughest challenge.

Another thing I want to do is try to use solid shampoo and conditioner bars and more bar soaps instead of shower gels and shampoos in plastic bottles. It might seem like a small step, but if everyone does a small step, it leads to big results.

Also - I want to support more small businesses in 2019 - something I try to do more and more every year.

Anyway, here we are!  My friend Karen recommended Haípažaža pȟežúta soaps on Facebook and I had to give them a try! I ordered two Sweet Grass (left) and two Cedar Wood bars (right) to give as gifts...well, 3 of them. One is for me :)

Talk about all natural - these soaps are literally hand made. On the website and in Facebook posts, I've read the following: "This handcrafted soap and shampoo bar is made without any coconut oil. In this Luxurious bar you will find skin loving ingredients such as RSPO Sustainable Organic Palm Oil, Castor Oil, Sunflower Oil, Tallow, Greek Yogurt, Lye, and Kaolin Clay. This bar is guaranteed to treat your skin with it's all natural ingredients, along with giving you a smooth, rich creamy lather, loads of bubbles, and leaving your skin feeling extremely moisturized. Enjoy this long lasting bar. We make all of our soaps by hand and in small batches, so the picture above shows a visual representation of how your bar will look. Keep in mind that each bar is unique and the color, shape, and design may be different from bar to bar and batch to batch. This soap is also gentle enough to be used on your precious little ones." This blurb was taken from the description of a new soap in Bubblegum flavor!

In addition to my purchase, I was sent a few complimentary samples to try and they are all impressive! The Lavendar one is light and aromatic. The Aloha Waikiki is extra moisturizing and smells like vacation, as does the Coconut bar. Each has a good weight, smells delightful but not overpowering, and can be used on the body, in your hair, and on your baby (if you have one...might not want to try it on someone else's baby...).

Check out the full line of products HERE and let her know Lacey sent you.

Support small businesses!

November 2018: Empties & Tossed Report

I began the first half of the month with nothing in my Empties bucket, but by the end of the month I was out of everything! I ended up with 23 full size empty products..that's quite a bit! Let me show you:

There are quite a few notable and standout products this month:

  • Garnier Micellar Water Cleanser is amazing!
  • Glisten&Glow Topcoat is the only topcoat I use.
  • SugarBearHair Gummies taste great and actually work.
  • Touch In Sol No Pore-Blem is a must have primer.
  • Too Faced Matte Soliel Bronzers are cult favorites for good reasons!
  • My NARS Climax Mascara is new and amazing, the brush is great.
  • Dear Klairs Supple Prep Toner is my favorite product of 2018.
  • Lumify Eye Drops are expensive but worth it as well.

As far as packets go, I only used two Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Masks, though it takes me 2 or 3 uses to finish a packet anyway. And thank goodness for that, they are expensive!

And my throwing our efforts went to nails and my old LUSH Cosmetics stash. I don't live in a place with a bathtub, so no use hanging on to these. I threw out a few bombs, couple of half used soaps, and a bunch of nail polish treatments/base coats that I wont use. See ya!

Month of November:

Totals: 23 items, full or deluxe sized / 2 packets or samples / 12 items thrown out

Empties Report Year to Date: 221 items / 103 packets
Thrown out Year to Date: 153 items

Wow.. the numbers are getting a little out of hand here! LOL.

November 2018: Favorites & Flops

Can you believe it is December already?! There is literally less than a month until Christmas!

Let me show you what I loved - and didn't love - in November!

I know I have proclaimed my love for Dear Klairs Supple Preparation Toner umpteen times on this blog. In fact, I will go out on a limb to say it is my favorite product of 2018!! I use it daily, and sometimes 7 times (skins in KB) in a row! My winter skin is doing just fine with Klairs!

My eyes are also feeling very hydrated thanks to Exuviance Hydrating Eye Cream, which is a super drink of water for your under-eyes. My Ulta co-worker, Mary, suggested tapping eye cream on with your ring finger b/c it is the least pressurized, so I've been doing that.

Smashbox Super Fan Mascara is lovely! It gives you those wide-awake, spider-lashes without it looking wonky or clumpy.

I picked up the Morphe M173 Mini Buffer Brush to do contour, but I've also been using it for blush, highlighter, and even to do my brow bone. It's super soft and the price is right. Check out Morphe brushes if you're in the market! Check it out below.

Last but not least, Kylie Cosmetics Charm Velvet Liquid Lipstick is amazing. I SAID IT. Kylie recently came to Ulta and to be honest, it's cool to get to check out the brand in real life and test the colors. Since ColourPop oxidizes like crazy on me, I decided to skip buying makeup online. Now that Kylie is in store, I get to try colors. Charm is a lovely pinky nude that is guaranteed to look good on anyone. The Velvet lip formula is creamy and - I promise - NOT drying. Try it! Swatched below!

Time to report my one and only Flop:

It is no wonder that I found Yes To Blueberries Smoothing Daily Cleanser at Odd Job Lot, not a drugstore or Ulta. It does NOT rinse clean! I feel like I have a weird mask on my skin after I rinse. Totally not what I am going for on my face.

On the other hand, it is pretty creamy and works nicely on my body.  So, it is a flop because it doesn't do the job intended, but it is fine as a shower gel. Womp, womp.

Do you have any new favorites or flops to share?!

Zoya Z-Wide Brush - Initials Thoughts

Hello there!

Zoya sent out a beyond generous box (39, if you counted, which I did...and still wonder - why 39? There was even a piece of tissue in there that could've made it the even I the only one flustered by this?! Yes? Ok...carry on.) of the new Zoya Z-Wide brushes for me to try!

And since I can't possibly use 39 of them (I mean, I can, but why would I want to?), I sent out 10 to My Boyfriend Hates Makeup followers. They will get back to me with their thoughts and I will do a follow up review as I use this more, but I wanted to get a post up ASAP.

Want the spoiler alert now? I ALREADY LOVE THESE.

Let's take a look!
Well, Seth Freakin' Rollins got the first look!

So, it looks promising right off the bat! I have only used Morgan Taylor (hate the formula) and Nina Pro (brush is tooooooo wide) so I haven't had good experiences with wide brushes. Whatevs - past behind us, right?

On the box itself, they compare the size of the regular brush, on the right, to the new Z-Wide brush on the left. Big difference!

I decided to give this brush the ultimate test: a dark, potential cuticle (and life) staining DARK TEAL. (Cue evil laugh!) But, before I show you the mani itself, take a look at the brushes, the difference matches the photos on the box. Nice.

Scroll down a touch so you can see the mani pic and this comment, because I am ALL.ABOUT.THIS.BRUSH. Good job, Zoya! It seems oddly rough to the touch before you submerge it in your polish. I did a few test strokes on a piece of paper and it wasn't looking great. However, once the brush was saturated, my tune changed!

Looooooook at my clean, crisp mani! Did I even do that?! Yes, yes, I did. Woo hoo! The brush comes with the cap attached, so you can just swap it out in the bottle. This wide brush is absolutely living in this polish, which is Zoya Danica, BTW.

Unrelated, but I always wonder if polishes with celeb names (Danica, Teigen, etc) are a collab between person and Zoya, but wouldn't there be a bigger to-do if Chrissy or Nascar decided to collaborate with Zoya? And, if they have no idea until they see the polish, do they love or hate the color? For what it's worth, I hate the shade of the Lacey polish, but the other Lacey blogger (www.laceandlacquers) likes it, so I call it a draw.

Anyway, I already hope Zoya makes the jump to the Z-Wide brushes, but I look forward to updating you on what other people think, as well.

Have you tried the brush yet? What do you think?

October 2018: Empties & Tossed Report

This post is so cathartic! I realize what I like, what I don't like, what I go through quickly, and I also force myself to purge older/unused/not right for me items throughout the month.

This month I ended up with 13 empties, 13 to throw out, and 11 sample packets used up. Let's take a look!

First up, the full size/deluxe samples:

There are absolutely products worth mentioning - in fact, half of them are noteworthy!

For skin, I  love the Clinique Moisture Surge Concentrate for summer as a gel, a lighter moisturizer, and the Dr Jart Ceramidin creme is also legendary for good reason. It is designed to help alleviate redness and the ceramic (see the title) helps hold in the moisture of the products you layer below.

In the makeup department, I love my Benefit Pore Fessional primer. It's got a cult following because it is that good. I am newly in love with the Becca Hydramist Setting powder but it is $$ so I am SOL on that one. The Kat Von D Tattoo liner is amazing but I may have to shop around since her views on (most) things can be a little WONKY. Lastly, and if any of my Ulta Co-Workers see this, they will be happy to know I have repurchased the Real Techniques Blending Sponge and I have stopped (or tried to stop) using my fingers for makeup application.

The other two items are a Caviar Lifting Volume Spray that gives me VS Model hair and an amazing cocoa mango scented oil that I purchased while on vaca in Arizona with my Mom. That one holds more sentimental value than anything but it still smelled wonderful.

I used 13 packets this month. You see my normal Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Sleeping Mask and my Purito Vitamin C as usual. The new additions in the back are the Youth Potion and Youth Creme by Diego Dalla Palma, an Italian skincare company.

Both of these are amazing! My Aunt visited Italy recently and brought them back. I am HOOKED on the Youth Potion. I have tried at least 45 serums at this point, LOL, and nothing has given me the instant results that the Palma serum has - I am talking instant absorption and instant redness reducer. I love it so much that my Aunt is ordering it for Christmas for me - thank you, Donna!

This month I recklessly threw out some items, and I will continue to do so! That J brand lacquer is and had to go. The Blistex Global Trend lip balm ended up on my Flop list and since I can't return it, I am just tossing it. I hate wasting money. The Essence Eyeliner pen is in the same boat - it was just awful. The lip scrubs in the middle are old. The Ulta Eye Makeup Remover wipes were dried and gross. Finally - yes, I am throwing out a 3/4 full TUB of LUSH Ro's Argan Body Conditioner because it is well beyond the expiry date and I got so itchy the last time I used it.

Time to total it up!

Month of October:

Totals: 13 items, full or deluxe sized / 11 packets or samples / 13 items thrown out

Empties Report Year to Date: 198 items / 101 packets
Thrown out Year to Date: 141 items

October 2018: Favorites & Fails

Why, hello, there! Long time no see!

Let me show you what I loved in October.

I am still all about skincare! You cannot put paint (makeup) on a messed up canvas (bad skin) and expect a Picasso!!

My current favorite primer is the Milk Makeup Blur Stick. At first, I didn't like it. The idea of rubbing a dry stick o'primer seemed rough and angry to my skin. However! If you warm it up first, like with a lighter (far away people, don't burn your product or your face) or if you even breathe on it (no dice if you share facepaint with a friend or sibling) than it becomes SO smooth and easy to spread. No silicones, either.

For foundation, I am reaching for the Wet & Wild Cushion - yep, W&W did a KB style cushion! Nude Beige is thisclose to being too dark for me, so I need to seek out a winter friendly shade. This comes with an awkward shaped puff to tap on your skin but I used my RT Sponge.

My eyebrows are (forever) a hot mess so I constantly reach for different products. See below - this By Nanda is an all in one with a brush on one side and the little ink pot (product pot?) on the other side.

For my lips I have been reaching for my Rainbow Honey Nourishing Lip Balm in Buttercream. I am pretty sure this was a swap with my friend Peggy, so thanks to her for that! I have approx 4,043 lip balms but for some reason, I am in love with this one. It's so moisturizing, not sticky, smells amazing, easy to find in my purse, LOL.

I am also in love with my Glazen Lip Glaze in Fairy Dust from butterLONDON! I received this at work and I am so glad because I never would have picked this up on my own. It is SO shiny - see below along with a By Nanda eyebrow product swatch. It isn't sticky but it isn't NOT sticky, you know? But the shine is SO fun and it is actually hydrating after it wears off, which I wasn't expecting at all.

That's all I got for the faves, so now time for Fails:

I am sorry to post these but not every product works for every person! The Blistex Global Blend lip balm sounds amaaazing with it's worldly products but what you get is a waxy, sticky mess. I tossed my receipt and the packaging otherwise I would've returned this. I may use it at night just to use it up but maybe not. The Essence Eyeliner Pen is no dupe for anything more expensive. It's gray and runny and everything I dislike in a liquid eyeliner. Not pictured is the LA Girl Matte Full Coverage Foundation which was SO drying that it had to go back.

What are you loving or hating this month?

September 2018: Empties & Tossed Reports

Just like my F&F post, I really enjoy this post and since the end of the year is quickly approaching, I wanted to keep this series going until the end!

Here is what I emptied in September:

With my No Buy in (mostly) full effect, I am using up some items that have been sitting around for way too long. This is helping me to see what I love and need to replace and what can just be tossed for good. As usual, I will talk about a few standout items below!

Skincare has taken over my vanity so a few stand outs include CosRx Good Morning Low Ph Gel Cleanser, which I've repurchased, along with Etude House Wonder Pore Toner, which I rave about and apply every morning before makeup. Rhonda Alison's Cucumber Spritz is heaven in a spray bottle, and I pick one up yearly when I go to Spa at Essex for a birthday facial. Sulwhasoo Emulsion is a lightweight moisturizer that I adore but cannot afford to purchase full size.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness creme is awesome but they need a MUCH better color range. Urban Decay Legend Eyeliner is my holy grail for the waterline! Japonesque Velvet Touch Primer is nice but not worth repurchasing as long as Touch In Sol keeps making No Poreblem for me. Lastly, my Essence All About Matt Powder and my Glisten & Glow topcoat are must haves that I never run out of before purchasing backups.

I only reached for 4 samples this month. You already know I love the Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask and I need to save some samples for the cold winter months ahead. The other two were not noteworthy.

I purchased a new fall foundation, so older, almost pan, not my color, hate the product, products needed to go! I threw out 24 items.

Time for the totals!

Month of September:

Totals: 25 items, full or deluxe sized / 4 packets or samples / 14 items thrown out

Empties Report Year to Date: 185 items / 90 packets
Thrown out Year to Date: 128 items

Wow. I'm a hoarder!

September 2018: Favorites & Flops

I was/am taking a blog break, but I like my Favorites & Flops and Empties and Tossed Reports, so I am going to keep going with those!

I am still on a No Buy (4 Lyfe) but I did have to pick up a few things that I ran out of last month. My Favorites this month has 2 new to me items, 2 old faithfuls, and 1 rediscovered item from my stash. Let me show you!

Time for Favorites:

If you follow me on Instagram (@myboyfriendhatesmakeup, naturally), you know of my love for sheet masks, and specifically the Manefit Honey Nutirion & Vitalizing Mask. The fit, the feel, the amount of essence and the results are all great. This is a CVS find, so I highly (my brain typed highlight, go figure) recommend trying this out!

As far as makeup is concerned, I have (finally) embraced foundation with a sponge - the Real Techniques sponge is awesome because my wallet doesn't have that Beauty Blender money in it. RT is actually quite great, in my opinion! The NYX Lingerie Lippie in Ruffle Trim is my discovery that came from my own stash - see how great it is for fall, swatched below. It's creamy, non-drying, but a slight matte, more like a satin finish. I also picked up the Essence Matt Bronzing Powder for Lighter Skin, again, because I don't have a repurchase of the Too Faced Matte Soliel in my budget. The Essence brand one smells like coconuts and blends nicely, I am very happy!

Lastly, these Xianzuxiu Pedicure Socks needed a shout out. As it gets colder, and my feet are hidden beneath 6 pairs of socks, I do not do pedis often AT ALL. However, in the 2-3x per winter that I pay attention to my toes, I use these socks so I don't freeze. Love them!

Time for the Flops:

This is not my photo, obviously, I'm sorry to say I mistakenly deleted mine. This Clarins Pore Control Serum is just.too.strong. for my skin! I tried it a few times and while I do wish for smaller pores, I wouldn't swap out breakouts for them. Buh bye! While this is a Flop for me, I am sure it would be a winner, winner, chicken dinner, for someone who doesn't have Sahara skin. If anyone with oily skin reads this and wants it, please email me - - and it's yours (for the cost of shipping, if I have to mail it).

October Break

It's getting to be that hectic time of year again! I am going to post my Monthly Faves and Flops and Empties and Tossed Reports, but I am pretty sure that is it.

Mani Round Up: September 25, 2018

My last September Round Up and I'm still rocking pastel nails! IDOWHATIWANT!

Model City Polish Venetian Sunset over Face of Australia Screen Siren Bombshell: How pretty is this!? Nina, owner of Model City Polish, makes gorgeous polishes. This was perfect in two coats over a neutral base (as in, Lacey was too lazy to remove the neutral base) but I bet you'd need a third without a base.

OPI DS Extravagance: How gorgeous is this? I am trying to reach for polishes that I don't use often...why is this on that list!? This is three coats and topcoat. The formula is thinner than I remembered, and I def flooded the cutes getting used to the consistency. Clean up 100% worth it - this is just so pretty. Holiday polish, maybe? At least Thanksgiving! LOL.

China Glaze I'll Pink to That: How perfect is this hot pink? It's almost like a neon orchid instead of a pink. Call me obsesssssssed. This is two creamy dreamy coats and my faithful G&G topcoat.

China Glaze Pine-Ing For Glitter & China Glaze Water You Waiting For: THIS WAS MY FARM AID MANICURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted earthy and blingy so this is what I came up with. I loved it!! I basically dabbed on the two glitters over a black (Zoya Willa) background. The only problem was that it was uneven in spots and I danced my buns off, so I had chipped nails post-show. WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mask of the Week: Boscia Sake Brightening HydroGel Mask

Did you hear the news that Boscia is coming to Ulta???

....Did you hear that? My Ulta store card just jumped out of my wallet and went running and screaming away!!!

Needless to say, I love me some Boscia. My current Ulta store only has a couple items, so fingers crossed I won't be tempted there!

I found this Sake Brightening HydroGel Mask at TJ Maxx, so I didn't feel too bad about snagging this normally $8 mask for $3. Def worth trying...or was it!?

This mask is a gel based, two piece system. There is one for your mouth/cheeks, and one for your forehead/eyes/cheeks, and they overlap about at your cheek bones.

So, first thing to note is that this mask does NOT settle on the face well. I messaged my boyfriend a picture of my face and he returned the message with this one of Jigsaw's face. Thanks, babe, LOL. Honestly though, he was correct and this is kinda scary, isn't it?!

Fail #1 is the fit. Fail #2 is also the fit because even after you have this somewhat settled on your face, it slips off all the time. The two pieces don't adhere or even stay connected at all, the top part heads north and the mouth piece gravitates south. Pretty lame.

Fail #3 is that even though it is a gel mask, there is no point at which your skin feels satisfied as the gel transfers to your face. I may even venture to say that my face felt LESS hydrated after removal. Needless to say, I will not be repurchasing this one.

I did want to start showing you how I incorporate a mask into my night routine, so this time I began with the not shown double cleanse, added a layer of Klairs Supple Prep Toner (in the spray bottle), followed by Rhonda Allison Essence, Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair, Benefit Triple Performing Emulsion, Clinique Smart Custom Repair Serum, The Body Shop Lip/Eye Cream, then the mask. After the mask, I did TWO layers of my TonyMoly Seaweed Aqua Moisture Lotion because I feel the mask sucked some moisture OUT of my skin!!

For me, this pricey Boscia mask was a fail. I'm glad I got to try it at TJ Maxx prices instead of regular retail. Has anyone tried this?

Mani Round Up: September 18, 2018

Seriously - mid September?! How?! Why?!

New York Color Cosmetics Sidewalkers: Can we pour out a lil' acetone for N.Y.C. Cosmetics, please? The In A New York Minute topcoat was my swatching basecoat holy grail and their matte B.B. cream was better than any brand, of any price range, that I have ever tried. First world problems, I KNOW, but still. I also liked these 99c polishes! Sidewalkers is a perfect grey creme, opaque in two coats, and, as it claims, super quick drying.

Lynderella Nosegay over New York Color Cosmetics Sidewalkers: I added two coats of Nosegay over Sidewalkers since Nosegay has a greyISH base. If I put it over lavender, it takes a more lavender tone, too. It's been gray and gross in CT, so I wanted to emphasize the grayness, haha.

China Glaze I Brake For Colour: And in a complete 180, I decided a bright reddish/watermelon/coral color was on the docket for a date Wednesday night and an Ulta shift on Thursday. This is three coats - I was surprised by the streakiness even after the second coat - but the third was money.

And yes, swatching hand has suffered another break, so let's welcome the Cinderella Hand back to the mix.

Face of Australia Screen Siren Bombshell: Nuuuudes! Love. This came from Australia, hence the name, and I adore all FOA polishes that I own. This was three thin coats - it def needed a third, but the result is creamy dreamy!

March 2019: Empties & Tossed Report

I am continuing to try to use up products that have been laying around, including perfumes. So far, so good. Let me show you what I used in ...
