November 2017 Favorites & Fails!

Welcome to November's edition of Favorites and Fails!

Let me show you what I loved this month:

From left to right:

Clinique Smart Serum Custom-Repair Serum: Sigh. As I've mentioned, I now work at Ulta. This amazzzing serum was suggested by Clinique Brand Rep/my Ulta co-worker, and of course I love it.

Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner: Holy grail!! This is an all-in-one product that is to be used right after you wash your face. I put a tiny bit on a cotton round and swipe it all over. It cleans pore, tightens them, evens skin, and on and on. Just buy some!

The Body Shop Vitamin E Skin-in Moisture Sleeping Mask (on the right in the photo below): This is another line that I have discovered since working at Ulta. I love the cleanser and the moisturizer and this overnight mask, too. It has a heavy cream consistency that feels so luxe and soothing on the skin.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask (on the left in the photo below): I heard of this through numerous reviews and finally bought it. I love the scent, but it is such a rich product that I actually got a pimple the first time I used it - ugh! I will keep trying, however. The gel-like consistency fools you into thinking you need more product than you actually do.

Essence Lash Princess: This is another product I bought based off reviews. For under $5, this is a great mascara. If you need one, try it! It's black, it's not waterproof, and my eyelashes look amazing!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lovesick: I am not the biggest fan of this formula - it does NOT last forever - but this shade is, by far, the most flattering shade I own.

So, that's it for the good stuff.

Now let me show you this month's Fails:

Ulta Overnight Lip Mask: I am a huge lip treatment fan, and that includes overnight lip masks, for sure. I was excited to try this one from Ulta as it was reasonably priced, but the price point was the only plus for this product! It is sliiiiiimey!!! Feels like baby oil, doesn't stay on the lips, and therefore, doesn't do it's job at all. Buh-bye.

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream in Light: This product has a huge cult following. I didn't mind this product enough that I threw it out - it's expensive and I did use it, but if I knew I could've returned it, I would have long ago. This stuff is THICK, like cake batter thick, and my skin just hated it. I felt suffocated! And it smells thick, too, if that makes any sense, LOL. I did use it by cutting it with other BB creams, but I would not repurchase and I would not recommend.

Did you have any new favorites or fails this month to report?

Mani Round Up: November 28, 2017

Post Turkey Day Tuesday! Let me show you what I wore on my nails recently. If it's a little lame, it's because I was super duper sick for the week leading up to TDay.

Barielle Hint of Tint in Hint of Apricot: Barielle sent me a few of their Hint of Tint treatment polishes and I am in love!! The apricot shade is perfect for my skin tone. This is two coats on a bare nail and topcoat to seal.

Barielle Hint of Tint in Hint of Tan: Hint of Tan was also sent to me and it is not right for me skin tone at all. It totally gives me yellowy lobster hands - is that even possible? It was a quality formula as well with two coats and topcoat.

L'Oreal Masked Affair & Cover Girl City Lights: These were my Thanksgiving nails! I wanted blingy without glittery pieces, so I just layered one coat of MA, one coat CL, one coat MA, one coat CL, and topcoat. I will post more photos, and maybe even a step by step series so you can see the bling building, but I really loved how these turned out.

MUD Milk Shake and Glisten&Glow Ridge Filling Basecoat: I was clearly in the mood for muted, neutral polishes last week, with the exception of Thanksgiving. I started with two coats of MUD Milk Shake, an Australian mainstream brand (thank you to my longlost friend, Leeanne, for this - miss you!). I added one coat of Glisten&Glow Ridge Filling basecoat on TOP, which gave this a milky and softer finish. I finished with a coat of Glisten&Glow topcoat and viola!

butterLONDON Fruit Machine: I recently rediscovered my butterLONDON polishes, which were stuck at the back of my Australian polish melmer drawer. This formula was butter - literally! This is two perfect coats and G&G topcoat.

Hoping for a more colorful week next week!

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask v. Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask - Lip Mask Comparison

As you know, I am obsessed with face masks. I love sheet masks, peel off masks, overnight packs, on and on. If it says "mask" then I'll try it.

You may or may not know that I am a huge lip balm fan, too. That is more of necessity as I have, or had, the driest lips ever! When I got into the world of masking (you can fall deep down the rabbit hole, trust), I found out about a beautiful and amazing beauty innovation: LIP MASKS!!

What is a lip mask? Unlike a regular balm, lip masks are heavier and made to be used overnight, allowing the product to truly penetrate the skin. Think of a sheet mask compared to a sleeping pack, but for your lips.

Here are my two:

When I got into KBeauty, I coveted the LaNeige Lip Sleeping Mask, which is basically considered a cult classic in KB land. I couldn't find it at Sephora (online only), and I didn't believe in the power of the lip mask, so I held off purchasing.

For my birthday in August, I treated myself to a Sephora splurge (which I'll be paying off till my next birthday) and wanted a lip mask to try, so I super splurged and bought one from Bite Beauty. Of course, days later, the LaNeige mask showed up in an unbelievable deal online, so I bought that in a sample size, too.

Now that I have both, which is better?!

Let me tell you about each one.

LaNeige Lip Sleeping Mask: According to the Sephora website, the full size is $20 for 0.7oz of product. The full size comes like my mini, housed in a pot that you have to use your finger or a spatula. I know quite a few people who dislike sticking their fingers in little pots, so that is one comment to note here.

There is a light, almost fruity scent, and a bit of a taste, too (not that you should eat it). It is very soft to the touchy, like a light lip gloss. It stays overnight pretty well, but I can taste it a bit in the morning and it pools to the sides of my lips due to it's very light texture.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask: This full size tube is $26 and comes with just 0.56 oz of product, which makes it much more expensive than the LaNeige. It comes in a tube, so you just squeeze it to get your product out, no fingers needed.

It has no color, no scent, and no taste. If you prefer, there are two tinted versions, too. This product is almost like a glue for the lips - it is THICK. If you dislike being able to feel products on your lips, this might bug you (actually, forget the might. It will.). It stays on overnight and sinks in, I feel nothing but soft lips in the morning.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask!

I like how thick it is, how it stays firmly on the lips. I love how well it absorbs. By comparison, I actually used the LaNeige again last night, and I had some peeling skin on my lip this morning, but there was plenty of product still on my lips. Bite is scent-free and taste-less. My lips feel like plump pillows of softness when I wake up and matte lipstick application is no worry at all! Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask is the one for me!

Do you use a lip mask? What brand and why? If not, did this make you want to try one?

Mani Round Up: November 21, 2017

Tuesday, again?!

Literary Lacquers Swallowed Up In Blue & Literary Lacquers Virgin Huntress - I have no idea where this mani idea came from, but isn't it pretty!? Two coats of each. My Aunt, who sees my nails daily, really liked this one and thought it had a jewel-like quality to it. I'll take it!

NARS Trouville: I was in the mood for that perfect baby pink and NARS Trouville did not disappoint. I have had this polish for years and years, thanks to a long ago co-worker (Hi, Cheryl!!) and the formula is still perfect. Two coats and topcoat here.

October 2017 Empties Report (193 Empties in 2017)

I am sorry that we are mid-November, but I want to keep up with my Empties Report. Let me show you what I used in this month and what I would re-purchase.

This month I managed to use up 24 full size and deluxe sized sample products. I have already posted about a few of the products that made it into my October Favorites, including Innisfree Orchid Lotion and the Suave hair mask.

You already know about my love for SKII Essence and my eternal love of Glisten & Glow topcoat and LUSH Cosmetics Rose Jam shower gel. The Lacome La Base primer is a new favorite, although I own way too many primers to justify another purchase any time soon. The Bath&Body Works Limoncello is a guilty pleasure because I know that brand uses one too many nasty ingredients - but oh, that scent!

Do you use any of these products and love them?

I recently read that samples go bad in about 6 months max, so I have been making an effort to use instead of hoard. I love the TonyMoly Banana sleeping pack but I hate the scent...smells like banana, shocker. The Honey Cera line is nice but hard to judge in one use. I love all things Caudalie but have no use for a facial spray. I already own a full size Purito Vitamin C, and I adored the TonyMoly Goat Milk Moisture Cream sample -but again, no need to buy moisturizer until 2019.

Gulp...time for totals!

Monthly Totals: 24 empties and 12 sample packets.

Yearly Totals: 193 empties and 83 sample packets.

Mani Round Up: November 14, 2017

Let me show you what I wore last week!

Zoya Isadora: I wanted to wear my Zoya Party Girl polishes but the colors are so not me. Womp, womp. I have received a ton of compliments on this polish, but you know what? I hate it!! :) Good thing I can remove it.

Zoya Shelby: So, yes, this is my favorite pink Zoya (if I had to choose) because my doggo's name is Shelby, and she's the best doggo ever. Two coats, done. Always perfect.

Barielle Falling Star: When I think of the one polish that everyone should own from Barielle, it's this one. It's simple but unique and the formula is perfect. Two coats and topcoat.

Zoya Jill: In case you're wondering, Zoya Jill is the perfect match to Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lip in Caramello. How do I know this? 'Cause I now work at Ulta!! Who the hell thought that was a good idea for saving some money!? I already blew more than what I'll get paid for my first week, but I assumed that would happen. For some lovely reason, the dent in my middle finger was gone the next morning when I woke up. Thank you, nail polish fairies.

October 2017 Favorites And Fails!

Hello there!

Time for Favorites and Fails. As usual, let's start with the good stuff.

I have been trying not to purchase new beauty products (but, uh, I just got a seasonal job at Ulta. Oops.) so I am going to highlight my go-to items as of late.

Suave Almond and Shea Butter Mask: Hello, holy grail cheapie! At under $4, this awesome tub of hair mask smells amazing and makes my hair ridiculously soft. I actually use it as a daily conditioner because my hair is usually pretty thirsty.

Innisfree Orchid Lotion: I purchased 4 of these little bottles as a sample from RoseRoseShop and was instantly hooked. As with all of my favorite items, it smells great and absorbs so well. It is lightweight but deeply moisturizing. I cannot purchase another moisturizer until I NEED one (in about 6 bottles and 10 samples from now) but this is the item I will re-purchase.

Super Salve Cocoa Mango Skin Oil: I purchased this indie beauty product from a shop in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It smells like h-e-a-v-e-n. It is an oily oil - a little runnier than I prefer, but the smell reminds me of my wonderful vacation this past June. I use this all over right after a shower.

IT Cosmetics Brow Power brow pencil: I received this as a GWP probably two pencils ago. It is a smidge too light for me, but it is the most easily workable pencil I have ever used. It gives you a moment to erase and correct if needed, but once it is on, it stays quite well.

Well, well, let me clarify. These are not fails, these are purges!! My LUSH stuff is all past its expiration date or just doesn't work for me (sigh - morgina, I mean you). I washed out the big pots and I will bring them back to LUSH to redeem for Fresh Face Masks over time. I recycled the littles and will keep a few for traveling.

In the second photo, I am tossing a Mentality Polish because MENTALITYPOLISHOMGTHATWASANIGHTMAREGOOGLEITIFYOUHAVEPLENTYOFTIMEONYOURHANDS and a Cupcake Polish that is gorgeous but someone (ahem) didn't tighten the cap and it dried. The Celebrate and Celestial samples are old but I'll reuse those containers. The little bottles, well, honestly, I can't read them and they've been sitting around for too long, so, they are going, too.

That's it for this month! Do you have any new favorites?

Mani Round Up: November 7, 2017

Happy Tuesday - the most polished day of the week!

OPI Infinite Shine You Can Count On It: I love this pinky nude, but I always forget about it with my plethora of Zoya nudes. This is two coats and Glisten&Glow topcoat.

OPI Infinite Shine You Can Count On It topped with Literary Lacquers Original Virtue: Welcome to I Wanted My Nails Done Without Re-Doing My Nails, Case #53953. I added two coats of peachy sheer Original Virtue. The gold shimmer gets me!

Nire's Desire Loves' A Fire: Halloween was last week, so for Tuesday I sported this darling polish from Nire's Desire, one of my fave indies. This is three thin coats and topcoat.

Nire's Desire Lingerie: When I was looking for my orange ND polish, I grabbed this one, which I totally forgot about! I am going to try very hard to use my neutral indies and not always reach for a quick Zoya creme job. This is two coats and topcoat.

Nire's Desire Lingerie topped wth MaxxFactor Fantasy Fire: How lame does this look? FF is amazing, but apparently not over a neutral topcoat. Womp, womp.

SuperChic Lacquer Figment of My Reality: How gorgeous is this? Indies are coming out to play! This is two perfect coats and topcoat. It isn't a fall or winter color, but it was 70 degrees when I wore this so it totally works. I decided it needed a lil' somethinsomethin, so I added an L decal and a little star decal. Love how it gives the polish a frosty and seasonal vibe.

Lip Slut: F*ck Trump Liquid Lipstick!

Perhaps I will lose a few followers for this, but I am over it. Trump is an awful President. He does not care to unite the country, and, quite the opposite, seeks to divide people from their neighbors and loved ones.

In response to his ridiculous response to the Aug 11-12 events in Charlottesville, Virginia, Lip Slut decided to send some of the proceeds from their now infamous F*ck Trump lipstick to those who suffered.

Honestly, this product has been for sales since November 2016. I didn't buy it then because I hoped (and prayed and hoped and prayed) that, if he were elected, Trump would be great...

So, lemme show ya my new lippie, k?

I wasn't expecting the formula to be great...BUT IT IS!

The color is quite universally flattering, I would think. The formula feels like a Colour Pop matte to me, and the staying powder is great. Win, win!

PS: Fuck Trump!

March 2019: Empties & Tossed Report

I am continuing to try to use up products that have been laying around, including perfumes. So far, so good. Let me show you what I used in ...
