Mani Round Up: October 31, 2017

Happy Halloween!

Are you dressing up!? I'm not. And neither are my nails, womp womp. Let me show you what I wore on my digits last week.

I am a little lax on the posts this week. I kept the same polish, my Hare Polish mani, on for DAYS. DAYS! That's like years in the life of a polish blogger.

Barielle Vintage Gown: I officially forgot how gorgeous this polish is! It actually reminds me of Vacation Time by SinfulColors, which I went looking for a few weeks ago and could not find. I am happy to re-discover this one! Obviously it is a little old, since the pigment in the bottle looks funky, but it applies like a dream. One coat and topcoat, that is all  you need.

My Daily Skincare Regimen

I've been getting into skincare hardcore over the past few months. I think it was the looming birthday that just passed in August that kick-started my newest obsession. My preferred method is the 10-step Korean skincare regimen. I don't use all ten steps every night, and I mix and match products, but in general, here is what I do:

A. Makeup remover wipes (doesn't really count as a step, so no number, but that's what I start with every time!)

  1. Oil cleanse (I am pretty partial to my LUSH Ultrabland here)
  2. Foam cleanse
  3. Toner (Murad spray or Tony Moly, usually)
    1. Sometimes I use my Pore Tightening serum before toner
  4. Essence (SK II or Boscia, usually)
  5. Emulsion (Skin Food Peach Sake smells amaaazing)
  6. Serum (First Aid Beauty or trying to use up samples)
  7. Eye cream (usually whatever samples I have on hand)
  8. Sheet mask (usually 3 days/week)
  9. Moisturizer(s)
    1. Clinique Supercharge Concentrate first
    2. Neck cream (LUSH or Strivectin)
    3. Regular face moisturizer (I am liking TonyMoly's Seaweed lotion right now)
  10. Overnight Mask (I am in the market for a new one!)
Here are a few examples of my daily regimens:

There you have it! I am by no means a skincare expert, but if you have any questions, especially about my routine, please let me know.

Mani Round Up: October 24, 2017

Happy Tuesday!

I hope you have a great rest of your week.

Here is what I wore on my nails last week:

Meteorites by Sephora Formula X over Prelude to a Kiss by Orly: Welcome to another edition of I wanted my nails done but didn't want to re-do them. I kept Prelude as my base and added one coat of Meteorites by Sephora Formula X. I wore olive green pants, a black sweater, and a black infinity scarf with constellations on it, so this matched perfectly.

Zoya Ming: Hello, new Zoya collection! Ming, a bright red creme from the Party Girls collection, applies perfectly in two coats. It's a bright, in your face red with the subtlest pink shimmer.

Knockout Lacquer It's All Over over Zoya Ming: Doing my nails without doing my nails is my new favorite thing, apparently. Lazy lacqueristas unite! I added two coats of It's All Over over Ming. the base of IAO matched Ming perfectly, so this will definitely be a go-to combo in the future.

SinfulColors Snow Me White: If you need a decent white base, this does the trick, especially for the price. Also, did you know SinfulColors is all one word, not Sinful Colors? Grammar, yall.

Orly Glowstick over SinfulColors Snow Me White: Orly Glowstick was playing tricks on my cell phone's camera, but you get the point. This is two coats over Snow Me White - basecoat is def needed or you'll be up to 4 coats at least.

Sation Down and Dirty Flirty: I picked a go-to Zoya from my neutral drawer, put it back down,  and reached for this instead. I am glad I did! I forgot how complimentary this polish is to my skintone. This is two quick coats and topcoat. It dried quickly and the color is lovely.

Makeup Purge: What & Why??

I couldn't take it anymore. I am sorry to post this late but better late than never, right?

I was in A Mood over the Labor Day weekend - though this blog post came well after the purge -  and went through my makeup stash with reckless abandon.

Here is what I decided to throw out or put up for swap:

I am aying GOODBYE to products I just don't use, like eyeshadow primer...and quite a few eyeshadows, too.

I am saying goodbye to products that just are not the right color for me, like that Wet&Wild blush and every single foundation product on the top row.

I am saying good bye to formulas I hate, like the nasty super thick and cake like It Cosmetics concealer.

I am saying goodbye to duplicates of products that just don't work as well as the ones I will reach for, like 18 different brush styles of liquid eyeliner.

See ya!

Mani Round Up: October 17, 2017

Guess what I did last week? Broke my middle finger nail on my swatching hand.

Guess who has the new Zoya Party Girl collection headed her way to be swatched? Mmhmm, the same person with the broken middle finger on the swatching hand.

I will be doubling up on my Biotin, and hoping the Zoya shipping takes a while (they don't), but I will tackle that issue when I have to. In the meantime, I've chopped all my nails down and have a week full of shorty pics for you. Sigh. It happens!

Barielle Cherish: You know those people who have shorty nails and rock black or sapphire blue or even a deep purple? And their nails look super edgy, polished, and modern? I don't know who they are either, but I am not one of them. I only like my shorties in neutral, classy, skin-tone like shades. Barielle Cherish it is - the creamiest, pastel-est, lightest pink I own. Two coats and topcoat.

Zoya Dory: Forget what I said about neutrals on shorties. I am having fun with some bright shades, including Zoya Dory. How do you think they came up with the name for this particular blue?! I got a ton of compliments from strangers on this one. This is two perfect coats and Glisten & Glow topcoat, of course.

Ladybug Lacquer Sunset Popsicle: Does this scream FALL or what? This is two coats and topcoat. I am in love with this shade of orange. It was a summer polish (I believe) but I am loving it even more in the (finally) fall.

Orly Prelude to a Kiss: Surprised to see this polish, aren't you? No, I didn't think so. This is my "If I was stranded on a desert island and could only take one polish with me" polish of choice. Two coats, topcoat, done.

Empties Report: September 2017 (169 Empties in 2017) & Tossed Items

Hello there!

So I have this sturdy brown shopping bag (LUSH, of course) where I throw my empties when I am done, but I have also started to throw things out when they just don't work for me. Starting this month, I am going to post my empties but also my tossed items, too, and tell you why I don't want to keep them.

For starters, here are my empties:

Like last month, I won't go through everything. Instead, let me show you what I loved and would re-purchase.

Formula 10.0.06 Wipe Your Face Off Makeup Wipes: No need to rehash my love for these, right? I buy them 2 at a time so I never run out.

LUSH Cosmetics Sleepy Body Lotion: I was just going to type 'it's almost that time of year again' but LUSH recently made this lavender scented lotion a part of their permanent line. It smells amazing, especially right before bedtime, and mimics the Twilight scent, if you're familiar with that.

Caudalie Vino Source Sorbet Moisturizer: I really need to invest in a full size bottle of this when I next need moisturizer. It smells like a sweet candy or sorbet, has a cool consistency, and works well over all of my other products.

Axe Daily Spray Anarchy: I needed a small spray to toss in my bag and this was actually quite good! Somewhere between clean and clean-girls-locker-room scent, this little canister holds quite a bit of product.

Glisten & Glow Topcoat: The best topcoat on the market, hands down. (Hands..topcoat..HAHA, see what I did there?)

Etude House Bubble Tea Sleeping Pack: I purchased a 3-pack of these sleeping packs when Meme box was liquidating it's non brand inventory. I like this for summer because it has a cooling, gel consistency, but I plan to switch to a more lotion-like pack for winter.

LaNeige Lavender Water Sleeping Mask: I saw this posted in my KB skincare group on Facebook and found a sample size for a great price. I love it, but like the Etude House product, it has a lighter weight to it that relegates it to summer use for me.

I also used up some packets:

Next up, here is what I tossed out:

Ulta Beauty Sugar Lip Scrub: Where is the sugar? Where is the scrub? The sugar must've dissolved and now this is a slimy mess. Buh-bye.

Urban Decay Up All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray: It's not that I dislike this product, it just happens that this bottle is about 4,105 years old and I have a matte version from NyX that I like better. See ya.

That's it!!

Now for the totals.

Monthly Totals: 10 empties and 6 sample packets.

Yearly Totals: 169 empties and 71 sample packets.

Mani Round Up: October 10, 2017

Indie week! If I promise, I will deliver!!

Zoya Chantal and Femme Fatale Lacquer Mirror Mirror: I cannot tell you the last time I actually used a contrasting glitter topper! Fun, right? Mirror squared has a clear base with red, blue, and gold micro glitters. FFL is OOB now, but I still have a few polishes laying around and they all still perform beautifully.

A Girl Obsessed He Loves Pie: Sam, mastermind behind A Girl Obsessed polish, created a couple MBHM themed polishes for a me a few years ago. This one, He Loves Pie, was paired with My Boyfriend Hates Macaroons. Cute, right? Even after a few years, though the pigment looks a bit settled in the bottom of the bottle, it applied like a dream. Two coats and topcoat.

Black Dahlia Lacquer Capital Rose Garden over A Girl Obsessed He Loves Pie: HLP made the perfect base for CRG, although I forgot how opaque and creamy it is - it doesn't really need a base, FYI. I actually did just one coat of CRG over HLP and loved the results.

Bear Pawlish Peek-A-Boo: I forgot about this beauty! I might try to keep going with this all indie mani theme because, wow, there are some beauties sitting in my melmer drawers. This is two coats and Glisten & Glow Topcoat (formerly HK Girl, still same awesome topcoat).

That's it for this week! Did you like indie week?

September 2017 Favorites!

I am all about skincare over makeup lately and my September favorites reflect my current commitment to good skincare. Let me show you what I favorited last month.

Group shot:

From sort of left to right:
  • Formula 10.0.06 Wipe Your Face Off Makeup Wipes

  • Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask
  • Lancome La Base Primer

  • IT Cosmetics Confidence in Your Glow Nude Glow Palette
  • Ciracle Anti-Redness K Lotion

Here is the consistency for the Blistex Lip Serum, Bite Beauty Lip Mask, Amore Hydra-Gel, and Ciracle Anti-Redness Lotion.  (I hope my hand isn't a trigger or issue to anyone - I HAVE KITTENS!!!!!!)

Here are the kittens, Seth with the black nose and Roman with the pink nose:

The IT Cosmetics palette is much prettier than this picture shows, but here it is:

And swatched, here is the highlighter, blush, and then bronzer (aka contour):

Huge fan of all of the products listed on this post. Would re-purchase all of them!

Mani Round Up: October 3, 2017

Let me show you what I wore on my nails last week!

China Glaze At Vase Value: For a pastel color, this formula is top notch. I did two coats of AVV and then applied star stickers since I was going apple picking with my girlfriends and their kiddos.

Zoya Cathy and Nailtini Spritzer: Proper for a Monday back to work, I put two coats of Cathy and two coats of Spritzer over my nails. I wish Spritzer wasn't as sheer but it is what it is!

Zoya Kitridge: Darn it, Zoya!  I swear I don't intentionally favor my vast Zoya collection, but the formula is just so dependable and flawless that I keep picking them up. Kitridge is a gorgeous bubblegum pink that really needed a 3rd coat, but here is 2, with topcoat.

Zoya Aster: I love this polish! I guess it isn't very fall like, but it has been in the high 80's in Connecticut, so it matches the temp quite well. This is two coats and topcoat. Should've added a third but apparently I am anti 3rd coat lately. It's still purdy!

China Glaze Sunday Funday: I never wear blue nail polish, LOL. Why did I pick this? I'm not sure, but I am glad I did! This is just two coats. I am sure I won't be thrilled when I get blue all over my cuticles when I remove it, but pretty for now.

That's it for this week! I need to stop grabbing my Zoya and China Glaze! How about a NO mainstream week next week!?

March 2019: Empties & Tossed Report

I am continuing to try to use up products that have been laying around, including perfumes. So far, so good. Let me show you what I used in ...
