Mani Round Up - 1/31/17

Tuesday is quickly becoming my favorite day of the week! Posting a mani round up each week is forcing me to do my nails more often, and to branch out with a little nail art so I have something fun to share!

SinfulColors White on White & Orly Prelude to a Kiss: I am sure I have mentioned my love of striping tape manis before! I used SinfulColors White on White, let that set overnight, then used striping tape and covered it with Orly Prelude to a Kiss, which you already know is one of my favorite polishes ever.

I didn't want to remove this mani yet, so I decided to add to it!

SinfulColors White on White & Orly Prelude to a Kiss: I have had these vintage pin up decals for years, and I always hesitated to use them up. I wanted to wait for a special occasion. When was better than the Women's March time? Never. These are high quality decals, so they applied well and stayed put with a swipe of topcoat.

China Glaze Well Trained: I should start by saying I am obsessed with Jeopardy and watch it every day that I am home at 7pm. Wheel of Fortune follows, and my Mom and I have a new tradition of waiting to see Vanna's amazing dress of the day before turning the channel (sorry, Pat and Vanna!). One night she was wearing the most beautiful (as usual) dark teal dress with a blingy jeweled neckline. I knew immmmmediately what color to do my nails to match. Well Trained has a perfect formula, but with a color this deep, you may have staining, so I used my HK Girl basecoat to prevent stains. This is two coats and HK Girl topcoat for extra shine. I forgot how great this color is - thanks, Vanna!

Salon Perfect Flamingo Flair: I am such a fan of the Salon Perfect neon formula! Flamingo Flair is an awesome neon PEACH! My dream polish is neon peach holo - hint, hint to any of my polish maker friends. This only takes two coats to look opaque. The first coat goes on streaky, as neons are want to do, but the second smooths it out perfectly.

That's it for this week! Do you own any of the polishes I used last week? Love 'em, hate 'em?

Second Look Post: Yves Saint Laurent - Rose Romantique

Today I have a Second Look post for you, which means I have featured the polish before, but perhaps forgot about it. I decided to use it again and feature it again.  Have my feelings changed? Stayed the same? Let's see!

Today's post is Rose Romantique from YSL...well, SL now. I have had this polish for about 3 years. It was gifted to me (as it is waaaay out of my polish price range) and is one of my few higher-end polishes.

One thing I forgot about this polish was how much I liked the brush! Look at how wide and flat it is! This makes application a total breeze. It's like the Nina Pro brush, if you've used that brand.

Now...as for the polish itself...

Sigh. Fail. No wonder I haven't used this!

I wanted something for my August vacation to Cape Cod that was pretty, dainty, and lightly colored enough that if it chipped (while I was petting whales on my whale watch...) that the chips wouldn't be super obvious. I thought RR was the perfect choice.

Welcome to Streak City, population of 1. LAME.

Is this meant to be a French Mani base only? Should I use more than the three coats I used here!?

Is it because my nails aren't a pearly white? Do I need a white base?!

What is going on!?

Honestly, I expected more from such a high end brand.  When I applied the first coat, memories of streakiness came flooding back and I remembered why this baby wasn't living on my Favorites Shelf. Womp, womp. Back into the dark, dingy melmer it goes.

Have you tried any YSL polishes? Your thoughts?

Mani Round Up - 1/24/17

Another Tuesday and another Mani Round-Up!!

I have been trying to paint my nails more in an effort for a quality - and quantity - post for you on Tuesdays, but looks like I just have 3 posts for you this week. As it turns out, they are good ones, so let's take a peek!

Sation Holiday Go-Lightly: I chose this color for a fun outing last week. I wore jeans, black boots, and a black sweater but added a pop of color with my nails. Sation is such an under-recognized brand. This is the perfect Tiffany blue in three thin coats, and I love the extra shimmer.

Essie Using My Maiden Name: do you ever just get the urge to use one specific color? When I decided to paint my nails last week, this color popped in my head and I HAD TO use it. No matter that I have like 800 bottles, it had to be this ONE. This is opaque in two coats. The subtle pink shimmer translates from bottle to nail perfectly.

Before I go on...look at this macro!

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer Cuts In My Heart: I interrupted a scheduled no-buy last year to grab this beauty. I think I bought it from a box sub that someone else had purchased and split up. I grab this color year round. BEGLs have a slightly thicker than most formula, which pretty much means 1 coat application! I did two here for depth and opacity.

I swear I did my nails more than 3 times last week, LOL, but apparently I did not. I loved all three of these manis though, so at least I had 3 awesome polishes for you.

Do you have any of these beauties? Love 'em? Hate 'em?

Sephora PLAY! January 2017

I cannot believe that January is almost over! I just received my first Sephora PLAY! box for January, and I am going to go ahead and say that this is my favorite box so far! Let's get to it!

This month's theme is Beauty, Set, Go - all products that work on the go and are best for travel.

Even the bag has an on the go, be productive and hit those resolutions feel - it is white, has "Sweat is just another way to glow" on the front, and has a sporty feeling mesh back, shown below.

Wanna see what's in it?!

It is worth noting my box ended in #443. There are now a variety of boxes that are sent out, so to find your spoilers, if that's your thing, make sure to search by the last 3 digits on your personal order number.

I am SO excited! As much as I love trying new brands, it is so cool to get higher end brands each month from the Sephora PLAY! box. I mean, look: Ouai, tarte, clinique, boscia, and caudalie...all awesome brands!

According to the website, tarte Frxxxtion Stick is an "Exfoliating gel cleanser in a unique twist-up stick format transforms from a solid gel to a cleansing lather that gently sloughs away impurities." Considering I have been doing more traveling lately, this came at the perfect time.

Caudalie Resveratrol Face Lifting Moisturizer has an SPF of 20, so it can be used as a summer moisturizer or under makeup. I think this smells slightly like sunscreen so it may be saved until summer, when that smell is everywhere and you mind less.

The Oaui treatment mask is for your hair!
The website says it is a "Restorative mask helps to care for damaged hair and leaves strands feeling smooth and touchably soft."

You apply this to dry hair before your shower and then rinse. My only qualm with samples like this is that I have SO much hair...this will probably be a treatment for the bottom half and ends.

Boscia BB Cream! I was so excited to see this included in January's box! This was my favorite BB Cream until I found the matte NYColor Cosmetics BB cream which works so incredibly well and is under $3 for a tube, I haven't been able to justify a high end BB cream purchase again, so PSYCHED to say the least!

How cool is Clinique Black Honey from the Almost Lipstick line! This is a holy grail for many, a balm gloss hybrid that has been around for years and years. The color looks intimidating in the tube but is quite sheer on the lips. Swatches of the lippie and BB Cream below!

That's it! I think this is my favorite PLAY! box so far! I love all of the brands. I know I love the BB Cream. I am super excited to try Clinique Black Honey. I love masks. Caudalie products always work so well on me. Need I say more!?

Looking forward to February already!

Do you get this sub box? Are your samples different than mine?

Illamasqua: Stance and Nomad

Was I the only one heartbroken when Sephora stopped selling Illamasqua? Stance, shown in this post, was one of the first "higher end" polishes I purchased (a million years ago) and is still a favorite. I love their nail polish formula, and I do believe (unlike coughTomFordcoughcough) that the price tag matches the quality. Today I have two polishes to show you: Nomad and Stance.

First up, here is Nomad:

This is such a stunning jade green!! It is such a wearable shade and I bet it looks good on many different skintones. I used three thin coats for what you see here. The first coat was streaky, second was fine, third just made it look creamy and vibrant.

As I mentioned, Stance is an older polish of mine. I believe I have had this bottle for at least 5 years and it still performs perfectly. I used just two coats here. The wear on this brand is just wonderful - I wore this, with zero chipping, for almost 5 full days (but hey, I am a polish blogger! I change them often, okay!?)

Last look!

Do you have any Illamasqua polishes? Love them? Hate them?

Let me know!

Mani Round Up - 1/17/17

Good morning!

Tuesday means it's time for the Mani Round Up! Here is what I wore on my nails in the past week, along with a quickie review of the polish itself.

Fresh Paint Passion Fruit: this may look familiar since I featured it last week! However, it counts for this week, too, because I extended the mani and freshened it up using decals from bornprettystore. I love similar toned nail "art" with polish as it looks modern and clean. The polish has a great formula, with only two coats needed. I applied the decals randomly using tweezers and topcoated with HK Girl.

Barry M Turquoise: I picked this polish up last week thanks to OPI, LOL. OPI had a sponsored post on Facebook showcasing it's new gel line and the color they featured was Czech Book, a similarly hued bright blue. I didn't own the OPI version but I grabbed Turquoise, by Barry M, instead. This is a creme polish with a great formula - opaque in two coats.

Wet&Wild A Latte Love: while I do have a latte love for this color, I don't have a latte love for the brush! I posted this on Facebook and heard similar responses from y'all, too. The megalast formula is awesome - practically a one coater - but at least a few of you have similarly thin nail beds, like me, so the big, wiiiiiide brush is just too much. Can you hear us, wet&wild?!

Smitten / Dreamland Lacquer Terra Opal: I believe it was the summer of 2015 that this polish debuted - and what a beauty! The lime green is an unexpected color choice for January in the northeast, so you bet I got a lot of compliments on this one. I used a white base underneath to make the color POP and two coats of Terra Opal.

Girly Bits by Pam Eggnogoholic: this is an oldie but goodie! I have had this polish forever and it still applies like a dream. It's a simple mix of an off-white base and subtle golden glitters, but on the nail it is just SO pretty. I used three coats for this mani, although a white base and two would suffice, also.

Girly Bits by Pam Eggnogoholic: I loved this mani so much that I wanted to extend it's life a little. Bornprettystore decals to the rescue! You know I love these decals, but they peel so quickly that this only lasted for a day before I started peeling the edges myself. I have thrown away the rest of the decals I had that looked like this. Safe to say, my love affair with BPS decals is ovah. Womp, womp.

Well, that's it for this week! What was your favorite look? Tell me in the comments!

Zoya Lipsticks - Cameron, Paisley, Maxwell

In addition to the Neutral 3 collection, I was sent 3 of the newest item from Zoya - lipsticks! I am not sure if these colors are for me, so I swatched them on my hands for starters.

Here are the colors I received!  Maxwell is a matte which Cameron and Paisley are regular formulas with a shine finish.

The packaging is sleek and in a black case with a Zoya logo box. This is Cameron in the photo.

From top to bottom, just like the box photo, here are Cameron, Paisley, and Maxwell. I waited a few moments for them to dry down before taking a photo, but unfortunately, the finishes don't look any different than one another.  The colors were true to the bullets which looked pretty true to the swatches online, which is always helpful.

Wear tests coming soon!

Have you tried Zoya Lipsticks yet? Which is your favorite?

Zoya Naturel - 3

Neutral Zoya polishes have a special place in my heart and collection.

There is nothing better than the effortless polished look of a neutral creme polish, and no one does the formula better than Zoya.

Today I have a review of the 6 new colors in the Naturel 3 collection. This is meant to be a transitional collection, cleansing the palette between rich, dark winter colors and upcoming neutrals, pastels, and lighter shades in spring. I think the palette is also supposed to be skin toned color, varying in shades to compliment everyone.

I am going to go with descriptions from the Zoya site since these shades are quite nuanced. Gina is the brownest of the bunch, described as a medium brown neutral creme. This is opaque in two coats.

Debbie is a "plum brown" creme polish that is opaque in two coats as well. It has a strong fall feel to it with the deep purple tone. So pretty!

Mary is a "medium raisin" creme polish that is also opaque in two coats. See the theme yet? Zoya is so consistent with it's quality! Mary is my favorite of the three darker shades.

Here are Debbie, Gina, and Mary compared, in that order.

I love a mauve creme polish. Jill is a "lighter mauve" polish with a perfect formula. This is such a great, transitional shade for me.

Cathy is a light "pinky nude" creme that also has a great formula. The more pastel a color is, the streakier it may be, but Zoya does it right every time! I used this one for a full manicure when I swatched the collection.

Tatum is a "medium light nude" creme, which makes me laugh because what the hell kind of color does medium light even mean? I am cracking up here. This is a bone shade, in my opinion, and pretty but it makes my hands look wicked pale.

There you have it! My favorites are Jill and Cathy. Which do you like the best?

March 2019: Empties & Tossed Report

I am continuing to try to use up products that have been laying around, including perfumes. So far, so good. Let me show you what I used in ...
