October Favorites: Likes and Dislikes

Hello and Happy Almost November! I cannot believe how quickly the month has flown by.  Today I have my monthly likes and dislikes for you. Tomorrow, I will post my monthly empties report and mini reviews, and on Friday I will post Zoya's latest collection for you to help you get ready for the holidays.

Let's start with my monthly favorites!

First, this item is not available in stores! My bestie Katie made this special concoction of essential oils to help combat wrinkles and dry skin. I don't know exactly what's in it, but I love it and I love her, so of course it made the list!

I recently posted about this brush on my instagram (@myboyfriendhatesmakeup) because I have been loving it all month! This is by a brand called iBeauty. I found it at TJ Maxx and it was $10. It is SO soft and blends foundation really well. I am looking forward to trying smaller sizes for eyeshadow and highlighter.

I tried my first matte ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Hanky Panky, and, to no one's surprise, I love it. It is exactly the color I was looking for - matte, my skin but better, colored. Perfect!

NyX is a brand I always forget about until I purchase something after I read a review. I forget where I saw this #nofilter finishing powder, but I ran right out to Ulta to get it. I wish it made me more matte, but it does give a pretty flawless finish (I've only used it over full coverage foundation.) I am still on the hunt for a matte powder, though.

I wish you could touch this ColourPop shadow! The texture is like nothing you've tried before - it has almost a cold, spongy feel to it. I know that sounds weird but it's awesome. Swatches at the end of the post!

I am still on a matte liquid lipstick kick! This Anastasia Beverly Hills matte lip is in the color Dusty Rose. The Smashbox liquid lipstick came in October's PLAY! box, but the name wasn't listed.

Swatches! The ABH lippie is on the left, SmashBox in the middle, and Hanky Panky on the right side.

Have you tried any of these products? Love them? Hate them? Let me know!

Now, for the not so fun part of the post: Dislikes!

I received these Pacifica Lotion Wipes from a swap. I wasn't sure what to expect but I don't really like them. The wipes smell decent but barely have any lotion to them. I need one per arm, one per calf, one for neck/shoulders, and the list goes on. I can see having these on hand for travel, especially since it's not a liquid, but for every day use, I will stick to bottled lotions.

ColourPop's brow pencil, in Dope Taupe, was a nice color and a small pencil, which was easy to use, but unfortunately, this makes the Dislikes list. The pencil was only $5 but it had barely any product in it. The wax was too soft, or something, and broke off in chunks while applying. For the same price point, I'll stick to my $2 NYC pencils.

Estee Edit's Pore Stick is also making the list. I actually think I included it in my Favorites post a few months ago, but picking it up again proved to be a disappointment. I applied it under my Kat Von D Lock It foundation and it completely showed every dry spot, line, discoloration and flaw. I use the foundation constantly, so I know it was the primer underneath that caused the issues. Bye, bye.

Ok, so that's it for the month!

Tell me what you're loving in the comments!

Sephora PLAY! October 2016

Hello and Happy Monday!

Though I am taking a blogging break - and missing it! - I do want to keep sharing my Sephora PLAY! boxes and monthly favorites. Today I have a review of my, admittedly, least favorite PLAY! box to date.

Group shot:

First, here is the bag. I hate the bags. The boxes were the best. Ipsy's reusable cosmetic bags are fine. THESE bags are lame.

This month there were quite a few different boxes. In my box, I got TWO lippies. In pretty similar colors! I actually like both, but they are so similar that I am truly bewildered that box were in the same month's box.

Swatches!  The Smashbox is on top, it is an Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick. I forget the color name, I'm sorry! And it doesn't say on my Sephora account, which is odd. This has an incredibly comfortable feel and wear, I did enjoy it.

NudeStix Intense Lip and Cheek pencil is in the middle and on bottom, to see it lined versus a thicker swatch. This is also very comfortable and I did enjoy it, as well.

Next is the Verb Leave-In Mist for hair. This smells nice but is not something I'd purchase from Sephora.

The one item that I was looking forward to most in box previews that I saw was the All In One Egg Mellow Cream, a K Beauty multi-tasker to moisturize and prime. The texture is amazing, soft and spreads so lovely on the skin. HOWEVER, it smells exactly like eggs. SWAP!!!!!!!!

I also received a Skin Inc Pure Revival Peel. I do have sensitive skin so I am often hesitant to use a peel. I think this is getting swapped, too.

Last but not least, this month's perfume sample was Orchid Soleil by Tom Ford. I was happy to try this but would not re-purchase.

So, in conclusion, this month's bag was a dud for me. I def plan to swap the Egg Mellow Cream and will probably swap the Skin, Inc peel as well. The lippies are nice but two in the same bag was odd. The hair product is nothing special. Looking forward to next month already!

Did you get a PLAY! box this month? What did you think?

Blogging Break Time - Monday Morning Announcement

I hope you enjoyed my most recently Monthly Favorites post and empties. I love reporting my likes, dislikes, and empties for you each month.

I must admit, I am a bit burned out on polish blogging. It's been over 5 years now! I try, though I often fail, to bring you new content 3 days per week, and a Mask of the Week post on Sundays. During the holidays especially, it can be quite the extra amount of pressure on me to produce new posts for you. This year, I'd decided to just eliminate as much chaos as I can control, and taking a blogging break seems like an easy aspect of my life to not eliminate, but to put on hold.

Since my blog is called MyBoyfriendHatesMakeup (though I am single at the moment, HA!), I feel like I have more room for varying content, and in the future, I wont be sticking just to polish. I have already started to introduce beauty products in my monthly favorites posts, but I would like to be more in depth throughout the month. I am hoping to work with more makeup and especially skincare companies to bring you a variety of products. Heck, I might even throw in posts about what I am thinking or doing at the time. Perhaps some posts to ask your opinions or vote about things. Who even knows? The possibilities are endless!

I do plan to keep up my monthly favorites posts, and I do plan to post occasionally on instagram, so please follow me at MyBoyfriendHatesMakeup on IG for random updates.

I hope you have a great holiday season and look forward to catching you in 2017.

September 2016 Empties Report!

Happy Friday!

To end this week, even though it's a smidge late, I have my monthly empties report for you! Since this is only my second month with this feature, the Empties Report is basically showing you what I used up this month and letting you know if I would re-purchase it. Fun, right?

Group shot!

I have quite a few to review, so I separated them into body, face, nails, and hair. Let's go!

LUSH Cosmetics Cynthia Sylvia Stout:
LUSH orders always include generous samples and I love trying new things. With that said, one sample of a shampoo isn't really enough to make a decision. This shampoo smelled heady, lovely, and beer-like, so I am not sure I'd take the chance to try again. Not really my thing!

Marc Anthony Hydrating Coconut Deep Nourishing Conditioning Treatment:
Subscription boxes often include hair mask type items, and with long, thick, constantly dry hair, I love to receive them. This one smells amazing, but the smell was honestly the best part. I would not repurchase this.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Overnight Perfector:
HOLY GRAIL! I love this stuff. I received the LP Overnight Perfector in the Sephora PLAY! box and loved it so much that I swapped for a second one. You use this at night after you wash your hair. Spread through your damp hair (I focused on the ends) and go to bed. Wake up with the softest hair ever. Lovveeee!!!!!

Ayres Body Polish:
I received this as a swap and, first things first, it smells like a tropical vacation. I would not go out of my way to re-purchase this, but I did enjoy it. It is a cream based scrub with little blue scrubbies that do seem to dissolve (unlike those nasty plastic beads) and does smell amazing.

Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion:
I love this stuff! If you have not tried the luxe indulgence of an in-shower body lotion, you must try it! After you clean your body, apply this thick cream and give it a quick rinse before you hop out. It eliminates the need for body lotion after the shower. This has a thick texture and clean smell, so I really enjoy it. LUSH makes a few that are super duper expensive, so I tried this and do love it. I will re-purchase again and again!

Benefit Roller Lash:
Roller Lash is a fairly new Benefit formula that already has cult status. I am not surprised because it is amaaazing. It makes my lashes super long and doesn't flake at all. I use this AND my L'Oreal Miss Manga together and am constantly asked if my lashes are fake. Would I buy this again? YES! I already have!

dr. brandt PoreDermaBrasion:
I love the dr.brandt line, so I was really excited to swap for this and try it. I don't use scrubby face products often since I do have sensitive skin that is prone to instant redness, but I did like this. I am not the best tester because I only use it on my nose area, so I wouldn't go out of my way to re-purchase this.

Korres Wild Rose Overnight Mask:
Korres is another brand I adore! This came in a PLAY! box and I swapped for a second, too. This smells amazing, just like roses, and leaves you with plumped, gorgeous skin in the morning. Korres is often out of my price range, so I've picked up Garnier and Soap&Glory versions to try in the meantime.

LUSH Cosmetics 9 to 5 Cleansing Lotion:
I picked this up to try since I love LUSH, as you may have noticed, and this is supposed to be a signature product - easy to use and works well on everyone. Meeeeeh. It's nice, smells nice, but doesn't remove makeup, which is something I def need my cleanser to do. I love my Ultrabland and Let The Good Times Roll, so I will not re-purchase this one.

Beauty Secrets Pure Acetone:
Last but not least, the Beauty Secrets Pure Acetone is from Sallys, always on sale, and removes glitter like a dream. I buy this in bulk!

That wraps up this months empties. Did you like or dislike any of these items?

September Favorites: Likes and Dislikes

As usual, I am late again, but I have a jam packed post for you, so please forgive me!

This month I have some favorite manicures and beauty products to share, so let's jump right in!

Here are this month's manicures:

My favorite manis include:

  • SuperChic Lacquer Fumbling Fairytales
  • Zoya Merida
  • China Glaze Too Yacht to Handle
  • Zoya Wyatt
  • Orly Hot Shot

Beauty product time!

First - my new favorite HOLY GRAIL item!! I will never use another facewipe again. These are exclusive to Ulta. They are $5.99 for a 25 pack, but they are often Buy1Get1 50% off and you can use Ulta promos on them. They remove mascara without rubbing and they remove matte lipstick with no issue at all. Amaaaazing.

Another Holy Grail! LUSH Cosmetics has created the Sleepy Body Lotion for the upcoming Christmas season. It smells like the infamous Twilight scent and it's purple! Enough said.

Overnight creams are amazing! Slather this on your clean face and go to bed. Wake up with refreshed, plumped, smooth skin. What's not to love?

Ole Henricksen's Sheer Transformation is a sample I received in the Sephora PLAY! box and instantly loved it. I am wishing for a full size for Christmas.

Makeup time! These have all been in constant rotation this month.

On top, this is Times Square from ColourPop. Swatches below. It's my perfect my-lips-but-better color. It is an Ultra Matte but I don't find it drying at all, partly because...

NYX Primer! This is a colorless pencil that you line your lips with before applying potentially drying mattes. I carry this in my purse and at under $6, it is a must have for matte lippy lovers.

Flower Blush in Win Some, Rouge Some, is something I'd had for years. I should probably throw it out by now, but the shelf life of a cream blush has to be a while, right? It's the perfect flushed pink and easy to apply with just my fingertips.

Swatches of ColourPop's Times Square, on top, and Flower Win Some, Rouge Some blush blended below:

That's it for this month! Have you tried any of these products? What do you think?

March 2019: Empties & Tossed Report

I am continuing to try to use up products that have been laying around, including perfumes. So far, so good. Let me show you what I used in ...
