Chaos & Crocodiles: Forgotten Paths

Chaos & Crocodiles is an indie brand that is growing more and more popular by the day! The re-stocks are crazy and the products sell out so fast. I was really excited to snag my first, and only so far, polish called Forgotten Paths.

You have got to see this bottle shot!

Forgotten Paths was part of the most recent collection, Once Upon A Unicorn. There was one other I was interested in but it sold right out of my cart! Forgotten Paths is the only one I was able to purchase but, now that I have it, I am actually glad it was this one because I'll get the most usage out of it.

The polish is an almond neutral with a nice amount of holo. The formula is nice and dry time is average. My photos show three thin coats with topcoat.

Holo close up!

ILoveNailPolish: Iconic (Yes, Yes It Is!!)

Indie brand ILoveNailPolish has been around for quite a few years now. When I think of this brand, I think HOLO.

During a past sale, I picked up Iconic, an aptly named gold mega holo. It took me months to use it...shame on me for that! 'Cause looooook:

The formula of Iconic is nice. Swatches here show three thin coats and topcoat. The formula itself is smooth and easy to apply. Two coats would've been adequate but third is pretty customary for me these days. This polish is so sparkly and lovely! I am happy to have this in my collection.

You can find ILoveNailPolish:

I must also mention that the shipping is quick, the packaging is adorable, and any brand that uses cute boxes gets a check plus from me.

Thanks for stopping by.

bornprettystore Review: Pink Sakura 3D Nail Art Stickers

Today I have a set of pretty Pink Sakura 3D Nail Art Stickers from bornprettystore.com to show you.

As you know, bornprettystore.com offers a gigantic variety of nail art, from stickers to water slide decals to gem stones to stamping plates to stamping polishes to studs to pretty much anything you can think of. They also offer cellphone covers, costume jewelry, hair accessories, stationary and planner accessories and more and more and more. Best of all, they offer free worldwide shipping no matter what you order!

Take 10% off your purchase using my coupon code - MBHMK31!

 Ok, on with the review!

The Pink Sakura 3D Nail Art Stickers are a sheet of sticky stickers, not waterslide decals. The sheet has a variety of full nail stickers and smaller ones, including birds and single blooms. You can see and purchase this item HERE.

For testing purposes, I applied a few smaller stickers to my mani of Ribbons & Lace by Barielle. I used tweezers to pick up and apply the stickers to my nails.

The stickers are a little on the thick side. As you can see in the macro photos, you can see the outline of the sticker on my nails. They look nice from afar but up close, unfortunately, it is a little too obvious.

Last look!

Barielle: Mirror, Mirror - Fall 2015 Collection

If Barielle is not on your radar, you need to adjust it immediately! Barielle is quickly becoming one of my favorite mainstream brands. The creme formulas are quite lovely and the price point can't be beat. If you follow their Facebook or Instagram or hop on their mailing list, you'll get notifications of PENNY sales! Yup! Items are often sold for a penny (with 4.95 shipping, LOL), but still, under $5 shipped to try a new brand is so worth it.

I received the Fall 2015 collection, Mirror Mirror, to swatch for you. These are not necessarily fall colors...but I never wear of-the-season colors anyway, but they are classic colors that you need in your collection.

Ready? Group shot!

First up, this dusty teal is called Ribbons & Lace. Since my name is Lacey, I think that makes me automatically like this color, haha. In general, this collection is full of amazing, smooth, practically apply themselves, two coater cremes that dry fairly shiny.  This shows 2 coats, no topcoat.

Silk Stockings is a gorgeous your-skintone-but-better nude creme. I cannot have enough of these shades! This formula is perfection, shown here in two coats and no topcoat.

Blushing Beauty is the most sheer of the group and shown here in three coats. You can see by my visible nail line that it could've used a fourth coat. The formula was a little runny and on the thin side compared to the other creamier cremes.

Pretty Women is the most "fall" to me. It is a deep periwinkle that is a dream to apply. Shown here in two coats with no topcoat.

Feathered Slippers is the most amazing formula! This was the first one I swatched and I literally sat here, turning my hand over and over and looking at the swatch. It pretty much needs one coat but I used two coats with no topcoat for these swatches.

My favorite of these 5 is Feathered Slippers due to the superior formula.

Barielle sells their "Color Collections," in packs of 5 like you see here, for just $25 or individuals for $8 each. Barielle is celebrating it's 40th anniversary this year so the sales are even better than usual. In addition to polish, the catalog has a huge variety of nail strengtheners and nail car products because the brand (with it's equestrian logo) was started as a company for horses hoof strengtheners. As someone who has horses at home and who uses Mane&Tail products in her hair, this is a brand and logo I can definitely get behind. (If my allergies weren't so horrible, I could actually get ON a horse again, sigh!!).

Check out Barielle on their website - Barielle.com - to sign up for the newsletter. You will be psyched you did!

China Glaze: The Great Outdoors Collection - Fall 2015

Hello lovelies!

I was taking time off the blog to see if I could put my time to better/more productive use and try to get my life in order. Short lived experiment. I am still not sure what to do with myself so, in the meantime, back to blogging it is!

If you follow me on Instagram - @MyBoyfriendHatesMakeup - you will notice that I've still been polishing my nails and posting manis there. What that means here is that I have a glut of photos that haven't been posted in blog form. Oooops.

In order to clear out some of my backlog (as in, 7 pages of Flickr stored photos) I am going to do an abbreviated post here and just post ONE picture of each polish. I hope that's OK with y'all.

Here is the Fall 2015 China Glaze collection called The Great Outdoors. You can find CG on their page, Ulta, Sally's, and even random places like Jot Lot, and, oddly enough, my local Rite Aid. TGO collection is a mix of glitters, cremes, and duochromes. We see you, CG!!

I am going to separate these out, sort of by the finish. First, something we don't always see from CG - duochromes:

Gone Glamping is a gold to green color changing polish. In general, I dislike the metallic streakiness of duochromes in general. The changes in this one are subtle but pretty. I feel like OPI did something similar a few years ago. Application was fine, this took 3 thin coats:

Pondering is a purple to forest green color changer that didn't really do it for me. I see purple in most lights but you can see a hint of green in the bottle and by the cuticles of my nails.

Last but not least, this is Cabin Fever. This is my favorite of the three and I think the duochrome is most pronounced here, flashing gold to red to pink to even a little green. I dislike the visible brush strokes but I like the unique flashes of color.

Next up, this is a group of glitters and foils.

Let's Dew It is a clear based glitter topper with blue and purple glitters. It also has some tiny silver microglitters that seem holo in certain lights. My swatches show 3 coats with no base.

Wood You Wanna? is a surprise favorite for me. The beautiful shade of brown compliments my skintone and the application was flawless. I will pick this one up over and over.

Check Out The Silver Fox is China Glaze's nod to Anderson Cooper, LOL. It has the same application as WYW? but it a lighter silver color. Nice!

The other half of the 12 piece collection are finishes you are accustomed to by China Glaze: cremes!

Free Bear Hugs is a super dark, almost black, cherry red creme. The first coat of this polish was a hot streaky messss and I was quite worried. The second coat was OK but you'll need a third, thin, coat to vamp this up and give it depth.

Change Your Altitude is a lovely grey creme with a fabulous application. Reminds me of a pelican...LOL. Two coats to perfection with this baby.

Sleeping Under The Stars is a lovely blurple with pink shimmer. The shimmer doesn't jump off the nails, but instead of pretty subtle and lovely. The formula is great and you'll just need two coats.

My Lodge Or Yours? is a putty meets mauve color with a two coat creme formula. It isn't the most unique color going but it's nice to have in any collection.

Take A Hike is a lush forest green with a great formula. This is two coats with topcoat. Again, you may have something similar, but if not, this is a quality polish.

S'More Fun is the surprise color in the pack. Not sure how this lemon meets lime bottle of Gatorade color fits in, but I love it! This is three thin coats to cover completely. This color is definitely fun!

There you have it!! I am sure you have seen these swatches by now, or picked up a few already, but I do apologize for the single photo blog post. I'll catch up soon!

Thank you for sticking by me.

Literary Lacquers Goes Creme: Sherlock & Irene!!

Literary Lacquers creator, Amy, is the Queen of Holo, but now she is branching out into seriously creamy cremes!

Here are two beauties, perfect for fall, called Sherlock and Irene. Group shot!

Sherlock is milk chocolate brown with a gorgeous formula!! I didn't expect anything but perfection from Literary Lacquers and this really lives up to the brand's reputation. I used two coats and a shiny topcoat (HK Girl) for the photos you see here.

Irene is an oxblood red with a slightly more sheer formula. I would almost venture to call this a crelly (creme meets jelly) instead of a creme. I used three thin coats and topcoat for the swatches you see below.

Lovely, aren't they? These two are currently available in the Literary Lacquers shop. I am excited to see what Amy comes up with next.

March 2019: Empties & Tossed Report

I am continuing to try to use up products that have been laying around, including perfumes. So far, so good. Let me show you what I used in ...
