Zoya Fall 2015: Focus Collection

Zoya Fall 2015 continues!

On Tuesday I showed you the metalic Flair collection, and today I have the Focus collection for you, made up of 6 creme polishes. We know the Zoya creme formula is great, so I am going to skip a formula description for each one. With the exception of Hannah, which needed 3 coats, the other 5 needed 2 coats. I did not use topcoat on any of these swatches because Zoya cremes are pretty glossy on their own.

Ready? Group shot:

First up, this is Charli. It is hard to describe this one. Zoya, the professional here, LOL, says it is a "dusty taupe cream that has a hint of green, but is still a perfect neutral." It is a slightly camo green.

Next, here is Sia. OMG - so, so, so stunning! I am not usually a blue fan but THIS beauty is just perfection.

Janel is a brick red creme that screams holiday season! Colors like this make me look pale. Womp, womp.

Lidia is an eggplant purple. I just checked the website for the description and they used "eggplant" purple too, so, surprisingly, I am spot on with this one:

Hannah is a vibrant cherry red creme. I love this color SO much!!

Last but not least, Desiree is a chocolate brown, although Zoya calls it a "sable" brown. The photos make this shade look a lot more flattering than I thought it was in real life.

And there you have it! My picks are Sia and Hannah. Together they would make a great Memorial Day or July 4 mani...will someone remind me!? Oh, I love Charli, too! You know I love a neutral.

Did you know the Zoya is selling MINI sampler packs of these collection? I love that idea as I don't ever finish a bottle of polish.

You can find Zoya on be on the lookout for back to school specials as they usually tend to do a promo around now-ish.

Thanks for stopping by!

Zoya Fall 2015: Flair Collection

You know the seasons are changing when new polish collections start appearing! Zoya is always prompt with their seasonal releases and this year is no different. As usual, there are 12 new polishes with 2 sets of 6 coordinating shades called the Focus & Flair collections.

I am going to split them up because the finishes are so different. While Focus consists of rich colored cremes, the Flair collection is made up on 6 "liquid metal" shades.

Group shot:

On their website, Zoya states: The Flair Collection features six, jewel toned liquid metal shades. The unique, micro-grind metallic pigment is fully blended into a vibrant base, creating the effect of brilliant colored melted metal!

"Liquid metal" AKA metallic polishes are among my least favorite finishes (along with jellies). I was actually bummed to see these polishes in the bottle. You can see streaks in the pigment from the mixing balls so I was assuming the brush strokes would be oh so prominent on the nail.

Spoiler alert: I was def right about this. Sigh. Fortunately, some are not as brush stroke-y as the others. To avoid stroke marks, be patient! Try to paint in straight lines. Wait between coats so you can avoid pulling or dragging. Finish with topcoat.

First up, this is Giada, a jewel toned purple. I used two coats and topcoat for the pictures below.

Next, Ember is the red of the group. Zoya states that this shade has 'enough blue to make it wearable for all skin tones' and I agree. It's a nice shade in two coats with topcoat.

Cinnamon is a warm brownish bronzey color, designed for Zang Toi's Fall 2015 fashion show. My swatches show 2 coats and topcoat. I do love any shade that makes me look instantly tan.

Estelle is a vibrant blue with a 'blackened base' per Zoya's website. I see more of a light blue shimmer, which I like. The brush strokes aren't too apparent here, which is great. This is two coats and topcoat.

Tris is a steel gray, a 'brushed nickel' according to Zoya. Zoya puts out a lot of gray and I feel like I have seen this color already. This is two coats and topcoat.

Last but not least, say hello to Aggie!

In indie land, we would call this a duo-chrome, but Zoya describes it in quite a few more words, LOL.  The website says: "gold holo flip liquid metal with bronze micro glitter. Sheer enough for layering with 1 coat or fully opaque in 3 coats!"

Here it is with no flash:

And with flash:

Move your hand just a little and the color changes completely!

Literary Lacquers LE Birthday Polish: The Ultimate Answer! (Plus LL Comparison Pics!)

Every year, for her birthday, Amy of Literary Lacquers created a very limited edition birthday polish. It is produced in a very small quantity, so this is the type of release you need to mark your calendars for if you're interested! Sale starts August 28th!

You can find the Literary Lacquers store HERE!

This year's LE is called The Ultimate Answer.! And it has mini stars! It is inspired by the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which I really need to read.

Bottle shot:

I took all kinds of pictures, inside and out, because, seriously. Love this polish so much!  First up, this is outside, with flash:

Application is just lovely, as usual. This is three thin coats, no topcoat added. You do need to fish for the stars, they are subtle on purpose. Just spin the bottle around and twist your brush and you're sure to come up with a few stars - they are placed in my mani below.

Outside without flash:

Inside WITH flash is my favorite. Look how sparkly!!

Now, perhaps you are wondering how this compares to a few other Literary Lacquers. Perhaps you're wondering if you need The Ultimate Answer if you already have a couple other LL polishes.

No fear, I am here to help you!  I compared Bottletown, The Ultimate Answer and Thermofish. Bottle shots:

And here are the swatches, in the same order as the bottle shots;

Bottletown (index finger, top of the pic) is more of an olive=y green, it is the greenest of the three. Thermofish is much brighter, like TUA's neon cousin and it has some bigger glitter pieces. TUA has a base color between the two and IT HAS MINI STARS.

I repeat: mark your calendars for this release, beginning August 28th!

SinfulColors A Class Act Collection - Back to School 2015

Didn't summer just start!?

For those of you thinking about going back to school (or, if you live in the South you're probably already there!), SinfulColors has a new collection for you.

The A Class Act collection consists of 27 new and re-released colors. According to the press release, SinfulColors says:
Get ready to hit the books and go back to school in style with the latest collection for Back To School from SinfulColors, A Class Act. The extensive array of fresh shades are perfectly on-trend with the latest fall fashions and will ensure that your mani is top of the class. Dusty pastels and pops of color come in a demi-matte finish that feels soft yet looks striking and is deserving of nothing but straight A's. Denim blues and ready-to-burst brights capture an effortlessly cool and rebellious vibe, while shimmering silvers, purples and teals with eye catching 3D glitters look just as chic during a night out on the town as they do in class the next day.

First up, one of my favorites, this is Energetic Red. I love this color! The formula is spot on - this is just two coats and no topcoat. It's so shiny on it's own!

Feel The Vibe is a juicy orange that also has a great formula. I used two coats and no topcoat here.

Fig is a shimmery plum. I don't have a purple in this shade already, which is surprising but I enjoy it. This is two coats and no topcoat. The subtle shimmer really makes the color unique.

Daredevil is a re-release. It's a neon bubblegum with a subtle shimmer. This is three thin coats, no topcoat.

White Board is a demi-matte, meaning it dries slightly matte. The formula on these demi-matte polishes is slightly thick so go slowly with application and allow each coat to dry. This is three thin coats, no topcoat. Adding a glossy topcoat will destroy the demi-matte finish effect.

Summer S-Cool is also a demi-matte. It is a sky meets robin's egg blue. The formula is the same as White Board, thick but manageable. Great shade of blue!

Truth or LavenDARE is another demi-matte. The formula here was a little thicker than the others and this is the last polish I swatched at night, haha, so my swatches are a little messier than my usual. The color is quite pleasant and pastel, which I like. It's also a little shinier than the other demi-mattes.

Pink Break is a demi-matte that really looks matte-r than the others. This is a dusty pink that takes just 2 coats for the look you see here. Again, go slow with your coats and skip topcoat.

Late Night Haute is a turquoise and gold flakkie. There are bar glitters, which are not my favorites, a tinted blue base, and some pink/holo and gold flakkie pieces. This is two coats over White Board:

And this is over Summer S-Cool. Sometimes I like complimentary colors with tinted bases, like this, to make the glitters pop.

Last but not least, RADient is a jelly polish. This is a squishy and juicy magenta, shown here with three coats and no topcoat. This is supposed to have a demi-matte finish but I think it's pretty shiny. This is not my favorite, as I don't like visible nail line, but I know a lot of people do love a jelly!

You will find these colors at SinfulColors retailers, including Walgreens and Walmart, in August and September.

March 2019: Empties & Tossed Report

I am continuing to try to use up products that have been laying around, including perfumes. So far, so good. Let me show you what I used in ...
