Texture Polish Post - nOPI I Lilac Gumdrops

Today's texture polish post is another 'gumdrop' this time the nOPI collection.  I Lilac Gumdrops is a smoky lilac texture polish, shiny to look at but fairly soft for a texture polish.  Let's take a look!

20140125_171652

20140125_171624

This is three coats of ILG, which is a bit on the thin side.  The grit is quite smooth as well, with no real coarseness to the touch.  The color is nice, but this one falls slightly short for me.

Up close it looks more like it's a flakkie than a texture:

You can find nOPI polishes at WalMart, some Walgreens, and their standalone sites.

Texture Polish Post - Essie Lots of Lux

You're not experiencing deja vu - this is another royal blue texture polish!

Today's polish is Essie Lots of Lux, which came out for Holiday 2013.

20140125_154951

Yesterday I showed you JulieG Sleigh Ride.  Check out a comparison quickly, JulieG on the left and Essie right:

20140125_182343     20140125_155026

Essie Lots of Lux is a little bit more of a royal or navy blue, where the JulieG Sleigh Ride is more of an electric or neon leaning blue.  Perhaps I don't need both...hmm...

Anyway, Lots of Lux applies well, but it is a bit thicker than the average texture polish.  It dries quite sparkly but with an allover shimmer and not obvious glitter particles.  This is closer in formula to a Zoya than the JulieG, for example.

You can find Essie at drug stores, like CVS and WalMart, and on their website.

Texture Polish Post - JulieG Sleigh Ride

Guilty again, as this polish - Sleigh Ride by JulieG - came out over Holiday 2013 and I am just getting to posting it!  Even though it has a holiday themed name, this vibrant blue sparkly texture polish would be great any time of the year!

20140125_182443

20140125_182446

This is two coats, no topcoat, of Sleigh Ride.  This dries more matte than the gold and silver I showed you yesterday, but in the right light, there is some definite sparkle.

20140125_182430     20140125_182348

20140125_182436

Couple more shots!  I love how it looks different shades of blue under different lights.  In person it is more of a warm, vibrant royal blue.

Love it!  JulieG is available at Rite Aid.  You will see more texture this week!

New-To-Me Indie - Down The Bayou Lacquer: Storms Rolling In & Girls Wear Camo Too!

Late in May I won a giveaway from a new-to-me indie company called Down The Bayou Lacquer!  I received 2 full size polishes and an awesome polish remover from Cinema Swatch Lacquers.  The remover is scented, called "Apple Candy" and smells amazing, works really well, too.

The polishes I received are Storms Rolling In and Girls Wear Camo Too.  Bottle shots!

First up, this is Storms Rolling In.  What a pretty grey!

I shook this polish like crazy but the glitters were kind of tough to fish out. There is a micro glitter/shimmer running through it, which is really eye catching.  The formula of the polish itself is nice, and the grey color is quite flattering.  This is three thin coats with topcoat.

Girls Wear Camo Too is a clear based glitter topper with (you guessed it) camo inspired colors. I love that she used shards and flakies here, it looks kind of tough, like camo! :) I layered it over Maybelline A Neutral Statement. The formula on this is nice, and the colors really perfect for the theme. If I could voice one complaint, I do wish there were more glitters. This is three coats, dabbed a bit, and topcoat.

New To Me Indie: Alchemy Lacquers - Crocus

With an embarrassingly large (& growing) polish collection, there are very few times where I see a swatch and think I MUST HAVE THAT POLISH!!!!

Well, with the polish I have for you today, Crocus by Alchemy Lacquers, I had that kind of moment!

Untitled

On the site, Crocus is described as "a light purple crelly with silver shimmer, purple sparkles and multi-sized glitter in shades of purple, white and yellow." It is a really springy, really pretty combo. I don't have too many polishes with square glitters, so this is quite unique among my collection.

Untitled

Swatch shows 3 thin coats of Crocus, although two are probably fine for most. The glitters came out easily, no fishing or placing required. It covered well, dried well, and was a great experience with a new brand.

LynBDesigns: Mathematical Satire - Glitter Topper with Spades, Diamonds, & Hearts!

LynBDesigns released an Alice In Wonderland inspired collection, and there were two stand-out must-have polishes for me: Chesire Grin and this one, Mathematical Satire.

Seriously - have you seen a polish with spades, diamonds, and hearts?? ME NEITHER...until this one!  Take a look:

Untitled

This is two dabbed coats of MS over Essie Barefoot & Topless, a highly recommendable nude creme.  MS has a clear base, chock full of glitters.  I did some dabbing and placing (duh) because I wanted all of the glitters represented!

Untitled

The background of the polish is pretty cool.  Here I was thinking it had to do with the Hatter's card in his hat, but there's actually a lot more to it than that.  On the site, the polish is described as:

"I created this one on the theory that Alice in Wonderland and the accompanying stories are all based on mathematical satire. It’s an interesting theory that I of course heard about on QI. This polish has iridescent squares and hexes, silver hexes, and the most exciting part red diamonds and hearts, and black spades and clubs. I knew there had to be a polish in the collection that represented all the suits in a deck of cards."

Untitled     Untitled

I extended the mani for a couple days by addict Matte-ict by A Girl Obsessed, the best matte around! For some odd reason, even the photos themselves look matte, LOL.

Untitled     Untitled

This is such a unique polish! I'm so happy to have this one.

Arbonne Skincare Review, Discount Code & GIVEAWAY!!!

In addition to my love of polish, I also love makeup and skincare products!

As I get older, I am more careful about the items I put on my skin (and, unfortunately, I stay out of the sun as much as I can, LOL). I was asked to try out some products from Arbonne skincare, and after a review of their website, I decided to say YES!

**Make sure to read to the end of the post to:
a) learn how to get a coupon code for the products and
b) enter a giveaway to try them yourself (plus win a few other goodies!)**

You can learn more about Arbonne HERE!

I spoke with Jenny, the rep who contacted me, and she was really helpful in determining which products I should try. My skin is dry, dry, dry, so she sent me the following items:

20140607_214123

20140607_214143

The package contained:

  •  Moisturizing Night Creme,
  • Hydrating Eye Creme,
  •  Nuturing Day Lotion Broad Spectrum w/SPF 20
  • Hydrating Cleanser

The samples are small so I was able to use these for about a week, which actually was quite generous for samples! I really like these products!

  • The smell of the cleanser was refreshing and it was gentle but effective, getting off traces of makeup even after I used my makeup wipes.

  • The day lotion was nice and light, blended well with my makeup.

  • The night cream was thicker and really felt moisturizing.  Between the two moisturizers, the little dry spot on my nose went away!  Aaaaand now that I am done with the samples, it's back. BOO!

  • The eye creme smells amazing. I am lucky that at 30 I do not have many fine lines around my eyes (yet, I know) but I need preventative care and this seemed to do the trick.

If you're interested in Arbonne, you must contact Jenny - she is awesome!

You can reach Jenny:

On her Facebook page HERE

By email at: kahouhi@gmail.com

Or by phone at: 250-515-8561

And, if you check out at Arbonne.com, contact Jenny first because readers of MBHM will receive a coupon code for 15% off!!

And, guess what?

Jenny sent some samples for me to give away to you, too! I decided to sweeten the pot, as the saying goes, so I added a few items! The winner, US only, please, will receive the same Arbonne samples I received as well as a nail file with numerous grits that adhere to the file, a rose scented file disk, and a full size Organix Cherry Blossom Lotus floral exfoliator!!

Literary Lacquer & Ethereal Lacquer: Limited Edition Summer Cocktails Duo!! & Nail Art!

Of course, it is no surprise that I am a huge fan of anything created by Literary Lacquers, so when Amy asked if I would swatch the new Limited Edition duo project, a collaboration between her and Ethereal Lacquer, I was ecstatic!!!!  Actually, I think my response was "don't ask, just mail, include deadlines." LOL.

*Before we go any further, let me say that this collabo is LIMITED EDITION and selling reeeeally fast! Not only are the polishes amazing, the price point - just $22 for two heavenly holos - makes this deal really extra awesome. If you want to skip my pics (please dont, lol) and just go to the listing, click HERE!)*

Soooo, if you're still here (thank you), here are the bottle shots first:

20140610_195209     20140610_195226

Oooh, aaaaah!  Both have very cool inspirations, of course. This time, they are summer cocktail inspired! For my 21+ readers, here are the ingredients:

2 lovely polishes created in collaboration inspired by summer cocktails!

 Lilac Haze
2 ounces Botanist gin
3/4 ounces lilac simple syrup
1/2 ounce lemon juice
1/2 ounce Poli Miele Honey Grappa liqueur
Shake and serve over ice in a rocks glass

 Tequila Mockingbird
1 Jalapeño pepper slice
2 oz Patrón Silver Tequila
1.5 oz Watermelon-Basil Purée*
.75 oz Fresh lime juice
.75 oz Agave syrup
Shake and serve over ice in a rocks glass

I did already show you Tequila Mockingbird and some Literary Lacquer stained glass nail art, which you can see HERE but, obviously, I am going to show you a few more pics here, too!

First, however, let me show you the new-to-me indie, Ethereal Lacquer's Lilac Haze.

20140610_195825

I used three thin coats for this almost smoky looking lilac - smoky, get it, lilac HAZE? Hehe.  The holo, similar to Amy's polishes, is quite stunning.  I did add topcoat for these swatches, too, and the tc didn't dull the holo one bit.

20140610_195831     20140610_195741

And, just to refresh your memory, this is Tequila Mockingbird by Literary Lacquer, a bright pink holo.  Three thin coats, topcoat, and perfection on the nails.

20140527_202510

20140527_202514     20140527_202605

Since the polishes are a duo, I thought I needed something that combined both, so I used a makeup sponge to add Tequila Mockingbird to my tips in this quick gradient design.

20140610_201618

20140610_201622     20140610_201547

And, while I was digging around in my indie drawers, I picked up What Fools These Mortals Be by Literary Lacquer and thought it would be the perfect topcoat for the gradient.  I used just one quick coat of Mortals, no fishing required even for the larger teal hexes.
