Today I have something a little different for you, a "splurge v steal" type post, like they do in Glamour (I think) where it compares two very similar items at pretty different price points.
This post features two gold topcoats, Maria Louisa from Zoya, $10, and Top Of The Gold by NYC New York Color, $1.99 and often on sale for $0.99!! Check them out below, then I'll back up and show swatches of each one.
This is TWO coats of each shown of Wet & Wild A Blank Canvas. No topcoat. WHICH IS WHICH?? Can you tell??
My ring finger and pinky have NYC:
My middle finger and index have Zoya:
This is one coat of each over the W&W white base. The differences are more clear here, the Zoya (top finger, NYC on bottom finger) has a denser formula with more glitters...but it's not a landslide win, in my opinion. Close up of one coat each:
But from far away, even one coat looks fairly similar:
And, one more look, two coats each with topcoat:
So, in my opinion, if you want a one coat polish and you LOVE gold toppers, splurge and get yourself the Zoya. If you're not a huge gold fan and are just looking to add one to your collection (because you're possibly insanely addicted to polish...hehe) than I suggest scouting your local drug store for the NYC version.
Which do you prefer?
