Cupcake Polish: Dallas & As Good As Rose Gold

Hello there! Just a couple days left in 2014 and this is my last post of the year!

My first post of the New Year is going to be a Favorites post, so please come back soon!

Let's end it with a holo bang, as holos seemed to rule 2014.  I have two polishes, purchased by me, from Cupcake Polish.  Based on the colors alone, it may seem obvious why I chose these two, but with one, there's more to it than that.

As Good As Rose Gold was a must-have for me.  I love pinks, I love neutrals, and rose gold is really my weakness.  Even though golds are usually metallics and I hate streaky polishes, rose golds seem to come in a variety of finishes - including holos!  The rose gold mix of colors tends to look great on every skin tone and it is an all year color.

Dallas, on the other hand, is a red leaning color leaning pink color and wouldn't normally be my first pick.  However, the name itself is the reason I chose it and I actually adore the color.  I am a born and raised New Englander: I live in Connecticut until I was 18, lived in MA/Boston area until I was 24, and then I hauled myself to Arlington, Texas, which is the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex area, from 24-31.  It was the farthest I've been from home. It was the first time I lived alone. It was a hard trek through Graduate School and a great time teaching American History at a Community College in Arlington.  I had a blast! I met great people and had some unforgettable times.  I also rescued a dog there and sent him home (no thank you, city kill shelters) to Connecticut and named him...Dallas.  Therefore, this  polish had to be mine.

On to the pics!!  Let's see Dallas first, since I just gave you my life story in a paragraph about it.

This is three thin coats, no topcoat. It would be fine with two but I'm in the habit of three lately.  The formula is great, no pooling, no balding, just fluid and flowing on the nail.

Looooook at the rainbow!

So holo it freaks my camera out! LOL.

As Good As Rose Gold is a pinker leaning silver shimmer golden polish. Needless to say, I am in love!

In different lights, it pulls more gold and in some lights, more silver. With flash, you really see the gold:

Gorgeous, right? Formula is lovely, just like Dallas. It's easy to apply and is just like butter on the nails. This is three thin coats, no topcoat.

Indirect light, no flash...still sparkly!

15 Indie Christmas Polishes!

Instead of Christmas nail art, I decided to showcase my 15 Christmas themed indie polishes that I dug from my stash.  Some are from the past and some are still available...all are unique and made by an indie company.

Around the holidays, as all year, it is important to try to buy local items and support your local artisans.  Let's get started!

This is Not Your Mother's Cranberry Sauce by Shirley Ann Nail Lacquer.  Swatch shows three thin coats of this jelly polish and features gold glitters.  Def more of a pink/cranberry but given the name, that was probably on purpose!

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer presents The Man Who Makes The Toys, another cranberry/reddish jelly polish with green and red glitters. This is three thin coats.  I would put a redder base under it to make it lean more of a true red.  BEGL is def. still in business and is turning out some gorgeous polishes lately.

Playlist Polish presents Santa Baby, a truer red jelly with silver micro glitter.  Playlist is on a break and I couldn't find a FB page, but I hope they return to business soon!  This is three thin coats of polish.

Reindeer Doody by Tipsy Turvy Polish has red and green hex and fine gold micro glitter throughout.  This is another page that hasn't had much interaction so I am not sure if they are still in business.

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer's All I Want For Christmas... is a clear based micro glitter topper in red, green, and white.  Again, link to her FB page is HERE and you can def still find some pretties from this shop.

Flash Your Tips Sparky has red squares and hex and white squares, hex, and micro glitters.  The FB page is still up but no interaction for over a year.  Here's hoping for a 2015 return!

A second polish from Flash Your Tips, called Cupid Stunt, is clearly meant for Valentine's Day but I didn't notice the name until I had already swatched it. This is red hex, silver bars, and a holo micro glitter. This is one of my favorites in this post!!

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer makes a 3rd appearance with Santa Baby, a white frosty polish with red and green hex and red and green micro glitter.  The frost, which I normally don't care for, adds a snowy and festive feel to this polish.

Glitter Me This is an unofficial line but you can find her FB page HERE.  This polish didn't have a name, but I still wanted to include it. I think Nicole sent this to me as a RAOK one year.  It has a white crelly base with red and green shreds and squares.

Kawaii Nail Lacquer's Oh Christmas Tree is perfectly festive with green shreds for the tree and colored dots for the ornaments.  Kawaii Nail Lacquer can be found HERE on Facebook and has recently released a brand new holiday collection.

Unrelated: My favorite holo top coat of aaaallll ttttiiimmmeee is Let It Shine by Kawaii so if you hop over to her store, def. check out that topper (and you'll see my nails there, too!).

Holly Jolly is also by Kawaii Nail Lacquer and has a clear base with red, gold, and green dots and micro glitters in the same colors.  This would look great over any base!

Next, I have three polishes by Quaint Paints Lacquer, which is a new indie on the scene.  This is Polishin' Around The Christmas Tree which is unique with it's green pine tree glitter AND it is scented! The scent has a pine tree meets cinnamon meets perfect holiday scent - love it!

Let It Glow is by Quant Paints too,  It has holo snowflakes, shreds, and holo hex.  It glows in the dark!!  Quaint Paints has come out with a great selection of polish and I wish them a great 2015.

Dreaming of a Bright Christmas is the white version of Let It Glow by Quaint Paints Lacquer.  Very pretty, too, and it glows!

Last but not least, this is Vinter Snowrise by A Girl Obsessed which is coming back in 2015.  This comes with a baggie of snowflake glitter to place yourself.  I really like that idea because there is no fishing for big glitters and you're guaranteed to get them where you like them.  This has a clear base and not so traditional colors but I love the mix of colors. It truly looks like a bright sunrise when there is snow on the ground. Sam is a real-life friend of mine, LOL, and AGO is one of my fave brands so I am really looking towards her reopening in 2015!

That's all I got for you. Hope you enjoyed a peak at several indie brands.

My favorites are Cupid Stunt by Flash Your Tips, Oh Christmas Tree by Kawaii Nail Lacquer and Polishin' Around The Christmas Tree by Quaint Paints!

Hope you enjoyed this post. Do you have a favorite indie Christmas polish? Let me know in the comments!

Merry Christmas!

Dragon Claw Polish: Game of Thrones Collection - Smell The Gold Roses & Debts Paid

Hello! Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

I have two polishes for you from the brand new 8 piece Game of Thrones inspired collection by Dragon Claw Polish. I received two polishes called Smell The Gold Roses and Debts Paid. Bottle shots!

This is another collection theme that I am not.at.all. familiar with!  I'm sorry to say I haven't read the books or watched the tv show so I am going to reprint Janet's descriptions along with my comments, too.

First up, "Smell the Gold Roses is a representation of House Tyrell. Their shield is a gold rose on green. This polish is a pale mint green sheer polish with a scattered gold holo effect."

This polish is pretty but sheer, sheer, sheer.  This is 4 coats alone, with topcoat.  I do like the color, but I wanted to try it over a couple bases to see how the color would change.  It does shift a bit, which makes it even more special, as you can see below:

20141223_153624     20141223_153622

I swatched it over a couple bases, including white and black cremes:

20141223_153057     20141223_153101

And then I decided to swatch it over Zoya Tilda.  The green really stands out and the gold makes it very unique. This is with flash:

20141223_162301     20141223_162419

And this is without flash:

20141223_162519     20141223_162509

My "second bottle is Debts Paid. It represents House Lannister. The Lannisters are a rich family and their house colors are gold and silver. This polish is a glitter bomb of gold and platinum flakies, silver holo glitter chunks, and ton og gold glitter."

My swatch shows two coats of Debts Paid over Essie Butler, Please.  The polish is easy to work with and covers the nail nicely.  I did have to shake and fish for some of the heavier triangles, though.  I suggest storing this upside down for ease of use.  I do love a gold topper and this will look pretty over any base.

20141223_152628     20141223_152636

I really love Debts Paid, I know I'll pick that up again and again!

Ipsy/My Glam: December Bag!

I have cancelled all of my monthly subscription boxes except one: Ipsy!!  I love that Ipsy sends a cosmetic bag each month. Somehow, I always have a need for one when it arrives.  They also include 5 items, deluxe samples or full size most of the time.

Group shot:

I forgot to take a solo shot of the Bumble&Bumle Blown Away Bb Repair creme because I was so excited that I put it in the bathroom to use today already!  Bumble&Bumble is a great company and this deluxe sample is quite generous as you only need a dab of product.

It comes with a card describing the items and lists the items on the reverse.

This month's bag is a satin black, basic bag with pink interior. So helpful to have around!

NYX Butter products are all awesome and I am addicted to lip balms, so you know I was psyched for this item!!  I received the color Parfait, which looks scarily neon pink in the tube but applies sheer. It is very moisturizing, too, and it has already found it's place in my purse.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes is a welcome addition, too.  I love big, bold, faux looking lashes so I like to layer a couple brands together.  I am looking forward to trying this!

I must admit I am a little scared to try this Cailyn Just Mineral Eye Polish in Orchid.  Loose pigments can be messssy and I am messy with makeup anyway.  The color looks more neutral than orchid, which means I'll get some use out of it...if I don't cover myself in it first.

So, someone (coughmecough) turned 31 this year so eye creams and anti wrinkle lotions are now on my beauty radar.  I love avocados in my belly so I bet I'll love it on my eyes, too!

Overall, I am psyched with this bag!  Ipsy continues to impress me month after month so I am already looking forward to January's bag.

Influenster Frosty Vox Box - Unboxing & Review!

I am very lucky to be a part of Influenster as I love trying new things and sharing my thoughts!  I received the most recent Frosty Vox Box with an interesting mix of items!  Check them out:

Influenster always sends a contents card to tell you what you received:

And many items come with coupons so in case you love your new samples, you can save on your next purchase:

I am going to split this into makeup/beauty products and then food related items.  First, this is my new hairbrush! It is by ecoTools and has a sturdy wooden handle and soft plastic bristles.  My hair is thick and long and often tangled.  This slid right through without yanking too hard.  I was actually in need of a new brush, so thanks, Influenster!

20141220_163047     20141220_163055

I also received a Rimmel Kohl Waterproof eyeliner.  I did give one to my Mom because I use liquid but I have tried Rimmel pencils in the past and they do have great staying power.  As you can see from the swatch on my hand, it's very pigmented, too:

20141220_163119     20141220_164744

They also sent a frosty (keeping with the theme?) purple/mauve lipstick called Sugar Plum.  It is soft and applies nicely, but it is a little frosty for my taste:

20141220_163147     20141220_164850

A full size Rimmel makeup remover was awesome to see in the box!

However...after I swatched the lipstick and eyeliner on my hand, I used the Rimmel makeup remover to get it off and I had a really, really, reeeeally hard time getting the eyeliner off.  Normally I would understand that but the remover package boasts that it works well on waterproof makeup.  I disagree, unfortunately.

On the other hand, the lipstick is supposed to be "ever lasting" and the eyeliner has great staying power so maybe, just maybe, this proves the lasting power of the makeup? LOL, not sure. But you can clearly see some sparkle from the lipstick and some leftover eyeliner on my hand and this was after a LOT of scrubbing!

20141220_163219     20141220_165037

No.7 Advanced Serum was a welcome addition, too. I love anything in a silken serum formula.  This is a one time use packet but coupons are included for a full size.  I used this after washing my face and before moisturizer. It has a silky, lovely texture.

The food related items include a full size bottle of thyme, a bag of fruit snacks, and a sample of Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane seasonal tea:

I also received a full size bottle of McCormick thyme.  I am not much of a cook, to be honest. I am much better at calling for take out or going to a local restaurant, LOL. Honestly, though, spices are not cheap so I am thankful for this item.

Last but not least, my boyfriend snagged this full size bag of Red Vines Fruit Vines Bites in cherry flavor.  I had to steal the bag back to take a picture of it, so safe to say, these are pretty tasty, LOL.

In general, this was a nice mix of items!  Thank you to Influenster for the chance to try them and a extra thanks for the new brush!

March 2019: Empties & Tossed Report

I am continuing to try to use up products that have been laying around, including perfumes. So far, so good. Let me show you what I used in ...
