Almost Halloween Post! Batty, by A Girl Obsessed. New! Black and White Glitter!

Hey everyone!

Happy almost Halloween!  I don't post on Thursdays (or Tuesdays, FYI) so I won't be posting tomorrow.  Here is your Halloween-eve post: a NEW A Girl Obsessed polish called Batty!

Batty is a black and white glitter, a yellow-less version of Bat Cat, which is in Sam's shop and named after her super cute kitty Batman.  I have had the pleasure of meeting Batman and her white/orange kitty, Cheddar, in real life and they are awesome cats, totally deserving of name-sake polishes.

Bat Cat is the polish available in the shop.  I was spoiled with Batty, a just black and white version though, so I can add it to my super rad ever growing black and white glitter collection (awww yeah, check the B&W Vault when you have a moment.

*If you're interested in Batty, contact Sam on Facebook and she will whip one up for you!!*

I Halloween-ed it up for you by using OPI A Roll In The Hague, which I showed you HERE previously. This is 2 coats of Batty over ARITH with A Girl Obsessed topcoat added as well. The close up!

Batty has a clear base with black and white dots and hexes, micro glitter as well. One last look:

As you know, you can find A Girl Obsessed on Facebook HERE and on etsy HERE.

Essie Haute As Hello & A Girl Obsessed Flutter Shy: Is This My Perfect Peach?

I have a new found love for Essie polish.   The creme formulas are really flawless and most apply in 2 coats..sometimes 3, I know, I know.  I am still attempting to protest the cold and I realized I haven't posted this yet, so let's go!

So, all summer long I was on the quest for a perfect peach for my skin tone. I was very excited to pick up this peachy summery shade, Haute As Hello...but was so disappointed to see it on the nail.

Look at the difference between the bottle and the nails.

HAH is orange on the nail but peach in the bottle. I want the color in the bottle. I do not want the color that ended up on my nails. It just looks orange as Halloween day on my nails, so I guess it's appropo to post, but it is not the right color for my skin tone.

However, adding 2 coats of Flutter Shy on my accent nail made this mani bearable and wearable for a day. Flutter Shy is from A Girl Obsessed, which you can find on Facebook  and etsy!

I decided to swap this little puppy away, since the color is just NFM, not for me.

The search for a perfect peach continues!

Thanks for stopping by,

Sation Holiday Golightly - Gorgeous Aqua Polish!

This is a fairly plain post, but it's a wicked pretty polish. This is Holiday Golightly by Sation.

The swatches show two coats of HG with no topcoat. I love this icy, shimmery polish! It's like China Glaze For Audrey's girlier younger cousin.

I did have a bit of streaking on the index finger, but other than that, it is really worth the slight hassle. I think this is a year-round shade for me.

What do you think of this pretty polish?

MBHM Nail Art: Galaxy Nails!

Nail Art, take two!

If you follow me on Instagram, which I hope you do (and if you don't, you can do so by clicking HERE), you may have already seen these, but I did want to post them, too.  Check out my most recent Galaxy nails attempt:

I started with Out The Door Black Hole and a swipe of Zoya Storm:

Then I cut a makeup sponge into tiny pieces and sponged on Zoya Shelby, OPI Ft. Worth It, Sally Hansen Wet Cement, Zoya Lara, and Orly First Mate:

For glitters, I used Essie Luxe effects Stroke of Brilliance and Girly Bits Daddy's Little Girl. I didn't sponge them but used the brush to put dashes and globs in specific places. I finished the look with HK Girl topcoat:

I really like the look of this!1 Have you tried Galaxy nails?

MBHM Attempts Nail Art: The Water Marble

LOL, before I write anything else, let me say: don't laugh. LOL.

Just don't. I know I am clearly not the water marble champion of the world - Mucking Fusser is, holy moly her water marbles are stunnnnnnning - but I have to start somewhere, right?

I have long feared the watermarble! It's messy, it takes forever. Would I be able to get it perfectly? No, of course not. But I went to a wedding mid-August, wore a cute purple dress, and decided a purple/white watermarble would be a perfect nail look to compliment the dress.

For me, I found out a couple things by trial and error:

  • I prefer warmer water to lukewarm or room temp.
  •  It is a good idea to individually test a few polishes in each color before committing. Knowing ahead of time which polishes will spread well and which won't totally helps the process.
  •  Toothpicks make designs better than dotting tools, which are too thick.
  •  Work quickly!!
  •  The messier a design looks in the cup, the cuter it seems to look on the nail.

Close up!

Eeeek!  #meandmynails
For my second attempt, I wanted to do a rainbow watermarble:

For some reason, even though every attempt had all the colors, I kept get concentrations of specific colors. I don't like a majority of these, but I did like these two, shown below. I am also having trouble with air bubbles...any suggestions??

More recently, I went to see the Allman Brothers in concert on August 24th in Connecticut. I did my nails the night before the show and I couldn't decide if I was going to wear a red or maroon shirt with my jeans. I figured a red, white, maroon, and black watermarble would look great. I ended up wearing a black tshirt and then hoodie (Connecticut summer nights get CHILLY, I forgot about that!) but my nails still matched well.

My left hand came out alright. I top coated too soon and smudged my pinky:

My right hand came out much better! Check out that pinky and ring finger:

And both hands!

I can def use some tips and advice!! Please LIKE MyBoyfriendHatesMakeup on Facebook and let me know if you can help me out! Please leave me your pics and WM attempts, too, I'd love to see them! Oh, oh, or tag me on Instagram, too. Follow HERE and I'll follow back!

L'Oreal Butterfly Kisses: Sweet Pink Polish

L'Oreal has upped their polish game lately and they've been releasing a few uniquely colored, lushly pigmented polishes. Butterfly Kisses is one of my new favorites:

This is 3 coats of Butterfly Kisses over basecoat, no undies. I love the ever so slight shimmer of this creme polish. This is 2 coats of BK, no topcoat:

For the grand finale, come a little closer:

What do you think? I know quite a few of my fabulous readers are PINK Fanatics like I am, so I bet that more than a few of you are loving this! You can find L'Oreal at most major retailers, like Wal-Mart, Target, CVS, and Walgreens.

Thanks for stopping by,

Knicks Nails Round 2!!! A Girl Obsessed Ice Age & Kawaii Nail Lacquer Let It Shine Holo Topcoat!

On October 9th, I went to my first Knicks game!  I was lucky enough to see a legendary match up, the Knicks v. Celtics!  Since it was a preseason game, it was held in Providence, RI.  My seats were amazing - 3rd row behind the Knicks bench, so I clearly needed some stellar nails for the game!

Here is what I came up with:

Awwwwww yeeeea. This is Ice Age by A Girl Obsessed. It is one of the Dino Nugget neons from Summer 2013 and was one of my two favorites! You can see my review of the entire 7 piece neon collection here!

Even though Ice Age is gorgeous on it's own - and this is two coats, by the way - I decided to add a coat of Let It Shine, the holo topcoat. You know you want to see the closeup! It's so worth it.

Last look:

I did want to share a pic of my awesome seats, too:

In this manicure, I used two indie brands, A Girl Obsessed and Kawaii Lacquer.

Color Club Polishes: Ultra-Astral & Age of Aquarius

On a recent trip to a beauty supply store, I found some Color Club polishes.  The display did not have the Halo Hues (boo!) but it did have some vibrant solid colors that looked worth picking up.

Today I have Ultra-Astral, a bright and sparkly pink neon, and Age of Aquarius, a perfect and vibrant, almost neon, aqua or even jade like color.  Let's check out Ultra-Astral first, since you know I love pink!

This is stunning! It is a true neon, drying slightly matte. The sparkles make it dry quickly, and this is two coats with topcoat. I used HK Girl for this mani:

I added a mermaid decal by SuperModCustomZ on etsy, a cute mermaid:

Next up, check out Age of Aquarius. I love this color! It is almost neon in color but has the consistency of a creme. This is two AND A HALF coats, as I did experience some slightly dragging that required a third-ish coat in a few spots:

Such a great shade! I know I'll pick this up again and again:

One last look:

Well, if you're in CT, I can tell you where I found this, but otherwise, I am not sure! I know you can find the Halos on Amazon, so I would check there for other colors as well.

Illamasqua Pink Raindrops! Lemming Conquered!

I am so stoked to add Illamasqua Pink Raindrops to my collection!

I know you've already heard of Illamasqua, UK based makeup brand, and if you're a polish fan, you probably already know that Illamasqua polish is top quality. The original Raindrops, an aptly titled blue polish, was available a few years ago and brought back recently. As far as I have heard, Pink Raindrops is a new release and was HTF (hard to find) in the US.

This is two coats of Pink Raindrops and HK Girl topcoat. I had read reviews that PR was a thinner formula, but I didn't find it to be thin or sheer at all. I found full coverage in two coats and a formula that was full of shimmer and perhaps even maybe small flakies?

Close up!

I love this polish!

You can find Illamasqua on it's standalone site HERE.  I love all of my Illamasqua polishes and look forward to adding to it!

Glitter Me This: Plastic Flamingos!

I know this has happened to you, too.

You know the feeling when you finally pick up a polish that has been in your "to try" pile forever, and when you finally swatch it, you want to smack yourself in the forehead for not picking it up sooner?

This is two coats of FP over Out The Door Black Hole, which has quickly become myy go-to swatching black polish. It is a ONE coat, full coverage, perfect black creme - you'll see a review coming up soon on that. FP came to me IN AUGUST from the fabulous Nicole of Glitter Me This for my birthday (Thanks, Nicole!) and I was dense enough to pick it up just recently. UGH!!

You should follow her Facebook page, HERE, and check in especially on a Wednesday for her On Wednesdays We Wear Pink series!!

20130928_163923     20130928_163919

The polish itself is great. This is two coats, no topcoat. No fishing required, and good coverage for two coats.

You can find Glitter Me This on Facebook HERE and on etsy HERE.

Island Girl Mani Part 2: The Indie Glitter Topper!

Recently, I showed you Molokai Dream, a light pink neon by a new-to-me brand called Island Girl.  I did love the color solo, but I knew I had the perfect indie to add on.

I HATE the winter and the cold weather that is no doubt approaching here in Connecticut, so I thought a spring-y mani might make me feel warmer.

It didn't.

But I do like this combo!  What do you think?

Does the bottle and label give it away for you?

The gradient glitter topper is none other than Magic Meadow, by Liquid Sky Lacquer. (Thank you, Patricia, for this polish!) I have shown you Carolyn's holos before, but her glitter toppers also hold a special place in my heart!

It is tough to give you a coat count when I was dipping and dabbing at the base to pool it in while I dragged out slightly to create the gradient.

The consistency, however, is worth noting because even though this is a glitter bomb, the base is thin enough and the polish very easy to work with!

Although Island Girl polishes are tough to hunt down, Liquid Sky Lacquer is easy to find! You can find the brand on Facebook HERE and on etsy HERE.

March 2019: Empties & Tossed Report

I am continuing to try to use up products that have been laying around, including perfumes. So far, so good. Let me show you what I used in ...
