Guest Post: Samantha From A Girl Obsessed Shows Us A Peel Off Basecoat!

Today's post comes from the fabulous Sam at A Girl Obsessed!

If you're a glitter polish lovah (aren't we all) than this is a MUST READ post!  Here is a NEW trick to create a peel-off basecoat!

xoxo,
Lacey
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey ladies! I have a fun trick and a new to me indie to show you today. I’ll be focusing mainly on the trick.

By now I’m sure you’ve heard of a “peel off” base coat, which is essentially watered down Elmer’s glue. To be frank, I don’t really want to put glue on my nails. I know there are tons of chemicals in polish, but glue? No thanks.

So I heard through the hypothetical Instagram grape vine about a comparable polish base that pretty much does the same. I know, usually the last thing we want is for our mani to peel off in one sheet. BUT for some of us the removal of glitter is so tedious we’d rather find a different way than harsh acetone, soaking, and scrubbing. If you change your polish more than twice a week this method is definitely for you!

So here’s what you need (you can find these at your local Sally Beauty Supply); Yellow Stopper base coat to form the easy remove non yellowing layer of awesomeness, Bridge the Ridge ridge filling base coat to make a nice matte surface for you polish color to bond to, your choice of color and/or glitter, and finally a decent topcoat like seche vite. (Or you can do a pixie, liquid sand etc. without a topcoat.)

Now it’s picture time! I did 2 coats of the yellow stopper, one coat of bridge the ride, two coats of color, one coat of glitter, and one nice thick coat of Seche Vite. You’re probably like, holy cow! What’s the dry time like?! It’s not bad. Seriously. Especially if you’re using something like Seche or HK Girl quick dry top coat.

Warning: These are terribly unprofessional photos! Forgive me <3

I had to use a blue filter here to show the true lilac color of this beautiful polish by Liquid Sky Lacquer named Baby Bunny! Look at the polish, not at my blinding skin tone, lol.

PS. Thank you Lacey I <3\ it!

Ahh that’s better! This is TGIF by Liquid Sky Lacquer. Don’t you love it?! I LOVE it!

Now it’s peeling time!

OK, you get the picture…

Fun right? Who doesn’t like to peel stuff. C’mon don’t lie. LOL!

Ta Da!

Now you’re ready to wipe them down with a nourishing acetone free nail polish remover and oil them bad boys up for another round of swatching!

FYI those boo boo’s on my nails are old wounds, this method does NOT peel off any nail layers!

I know I just changed your life, bloggers… I love you too. J/K smile!!

Xoxo Sam

  1. I use glue all the time, but I hate how long I have to wait for it to dry. This is wonderful! Does it still peel like that after you wear it for a couple of days or only when it's fresh?

  4. My glue base coat does the exact same thing...and is essentially free. For the price savings, I'll stick with glue.

  5. I bought this Yellow Stopper just because my nails are stained and I was shocked when my manis peeled off the next day lol. At first I was annoyed but then I realized that's actually kind of great!! I just need to use it on manis I don't intend to last long :) I just do one coat of Yellow Stopper, then whatever polish, and whatever topcoat, and it seems to have the same exact effect :)

  6. @ellagee the yellow stopper and ridge filler dry VERY fast! And after a couple of days it tends to peel off in pieces, but still, way better than acetone and/or waiting for glue to dry. You can use just one coat. But the more coats you use the easier it is to peel. Also Kelly's right, don't use this method on a mani you want to last. Today while shopping I lost an entire finger of polish somewhere somehow LOL!

  7. I accidentally got the same result with Nutra Nail's "5 to 7 day Growth Formula". Twice. Even with Seche Clear base coat. On the 2nd and 3rd day I started losing my mani, finger by finger in one piece! They just vanished like yours ^.
