Wednesday Pink Manis: Breast Cancer Awareness: Zoya Meadow

I am not a part of the official Go Pink Wednesday blogger group, but that doesn't mean I can't post pink on a Wednesday anyway, right?  It is the last Wednesday in October and also the last day in October, BUT it is not too late to go have a breast cancer screening and to learn more about this disease that affects SO many women worldwide.

I also used my custom "Lacey's Heart Strings" by Monster Polish, which I'll show more of coming soon!  You can see the items I used for this mani at the bottom of the post.

This mani features Zoya Meadow and a breast cancer ribbon accent nail.  I have seen quite a few tutorials about making breast cancer ribbon nails, but I just went ahead and used a marker style nail art pen instead.

butterLondon Trout Pout & Rainbow Honey!

This is a mish-mosh mani of many things, but it came out pretty!

I used the following:
From left to right:
-Milani Sunset Glow (topcoat on TP)
-butterLondon Trout Pout (main color)
-Rainbow Honey Pinkie Promise (top coat on pinkie)
-theBalm Hot Ticket Boysen-Berry (base on pinkie)

Ooh, aah! Shiny and sparkly! :)

butterLONDON Rosie Lee Vacation Nails!

When I went to CT for vacation, I didn't bring ANY polish with me.

Okay, you can breathe again.  But I am serious.  I didn't bring any polish on vacation!  LOL!  I did buy some to bring home though, that's for sure, but I traveled light so I could shop there.

The moral of the story is that before I left, I needed to do a mani that would last for a few days, look sparkly, and chip as little as possible.

I recently swapped butterLondon Royal Navy with Rosie Lee from the fabulous Amy of Perception Lacquer (currently on break), and I knew Rosie Lee would be the perfect vacation choice!

My ring finger has Perception Lacquer's Save The Tata's, which was a Oct 2012 fundraising polish.

I am a magpie!  Sparkly, high quality polish is a favorite of...well, pretty much everybody, right?!!?

Vintage Rose Art Nail Tutorial! Color Club Hydrangea & More

I've been wanting to try a rose for a while and on this lazy Sunday I figured, why not?

Here is the finished product:

Cute, right?  Well, I must admit, this is a bit of trial, error, and cover-up.  Let me show you the process!

Here is what I used:

From left to right:
  • NYC 00 Clear Polish (not a top coat, but I'm out of Seche and this stuff works well)
  • China Glaze Exotic Encounters
  • Orly Ancient Jade
  • Dotting tools/toothpicks (although I ended up only using the dotting tools)
  • Zoya Reagan
  • Barielle Jewelie Box
  • Color Club Hydrangea

Add caption
Two coats of Color Club Hydrangea, which I purchased from Nail Polish Required's blog-sale, and a coat of NYC New York Color clear polish.

I added 4 irregular spots of light pink, Jewelie Box by Barielle.  To add these, I just used the regular brush.

Using a dotting tool, I added some depth to the petals with Zoya Regan.

I decided the Zoya and Barielle were too contrasting, so I added a couple more "petals" with this 10 Professional Lacquer in Pink-A-Boo. This was a random CVS find from years ago, and it's a highly pigmented bubblegum pink.

Using a dotting tool, I added leaves in China Glaze Exotic Encounters.  Since roses are wild and imperfect yet also perfect, you can freehand this quite easily for a nicely vintagey and realistic look.

Last step: I used the same dotting tool with Orly Ancient Jade for a few lighter colored leaves.

Outside, in sun, no flash
Outside, no flash, in the sun

I love this and it was surprisingly easy!!  I haven't been in the mood for glitter and glitter removal lately, so I've been sticking to basic colors like this.  This accent nail has the perfect amount of interest, in my opinion.  It is easy enough to do that you could easily do both hands, but I don't have the patience, LOL.

I finished the mani with two coats of NYC Clear Polish and then went back and added a bit of a Covergirl sparkle topcoat to just the tips. I didn't take a picture, but it was nice...and I'm a magpie, I need a DASH of sparkle!

What do you think?

For sources I looked at Misch's Beauty Blog and As the Sakura Falls. Google found 'em for me. Thanks ladies!

Connecticut Haul!! Barielle, Sation, Maybelline Holiday 2012

From Oct 18-23, I went home to Connecticut to celebrate my Mom's birthday.  On Friday, I went shopping with my Grandmother to TJ Maxx, hoping to find a few polishes.  For some unexplainable reason, the TJ Maxx near me in Texas has ZERO polish or makeup. Zero. Otherwise, it is a gigantic and packed store, but it has NO polish. It boggles the polish-obsessed mind!

Anyway, I also wanted to make sure to go to Rite Aid, because there are none in Texas.  Rite Aid carries my favorite inexpensive line, NYC New York Color, but I didn't find anything I really wanted other than a nice neutral.  However, I was happy to find the Maybelline Sequin Holiday 2012 line, which I haven't seen anywhere else yet.

Here is what I found!
At TJ Maxx I got Barielle Jewelie Box, Barielle Blackened Bleu, and Sation Fuschia Fever.  I got a sweater in the exact berry shade is the Sation polish.  I've never heard of the brand but I loved the bright color!

At Rite Aid I found the Maybelline Sequins in Sapphire and Rose and an NYC tan shimmer.  Both are super sparkly!  The teal looked remarkably like Peacock Scquak from Perception Lacquer that I got recently, so I didn't feel the need to get it.  I love certain brands, like Maybelline, but I'd always rather support a small indie brand!

The eye candy!!
TJ Maxx score
Love all of these!
What have you picked up lately??

October Beauty Army Box!!!

I have been a Beauty Army subscriber since they first began in January 2012! Beauty Army is a $12 per month subscription sample service, similar to Glossy Box or BirchBox or one of those.  BA is unique because it lets you take a quiz, every month if you'd like, to get a listing of 9 samples. You choose 6 or let them choose and they show up about 10 days later in a fabulous little box.

If you're interested, my link for an invite is here: Click Here!

This month, my box was pink and I received the following samples:
-Bath & Body Works Pink Chiffon Shower Gel, 3oz
-Suntegrity BB Cream sample in light
-SKYN ICELAND Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels
-SKINN COSMETICS - Twin Set, lipgloss and lipstick in Pink Tulip - Full size!!
-Immuno Viva Sunrise Tea
-You Da Balm - Lipbalm in coconut - Full Size!

The box with all the samples!
B&BW Pink Chiffon Shower Gel - 3oz
Sunrise Tea-not sure why I chose this, but it tastes great!
Skyn Iceland Eye Gels
Suntegrity BB Cream
YouDaBalm in Coconut, one of my fave scents!
Skinn Twinset in Pink Tulip
Unfortunatley, another blogger friend had a broken lipstick.  Mine was turned up to smooth the tip, which is more annoying than anything.
Lipstick
The gloss, with flash
Swatched on my hand - lipstick on top, gloss on bottom
The twin set is sheer and does have a very fruity smell, but on me, I reeeeally like the color!  The lipstick is moisturizing the and gloss isn't sticky at all.

I'm not sure why I chose a tea sample but I am glad I did! The tea is fragrant and quite yummy.  YouDaBalm in coconut is really lovely and not waxy at all.  I may give the shower gel away or use it for traveling over Christmas. The Pink Chiffon scent is perfectly girly, def something I'd use.  The eye gels I will probably give away or add to the traveling sample box of a group I am in.

After skipping a couple months of Beauty Army, I am happy to be back.  My selection window was great and I am looking forward to next month already!

If you want to sign up, go to: Beauty Army Referral Link!

Happy selecting :)

Sephora By OPI Havanna Dreams Perfectly Matches Examination Blue Books!!

When I was on the search for a perfect light blue, I found this from a blog sale from Nail Polish Required.  I bought a few and I think she tossed this one in, I forget since I've bought a few polishes from her now.  Anyway, this isn't a new shade but it's just a pretty light blue creme, a staple to any collection.  It is a really milky blue and is opaque in two coats.

I was inspired from this picture, which was one of the Spring 2012 Contributions from Temptalia.  The person in the photo did a muuuch better job than I did, and I changed the light pink flowers to Zoya Regan for a more mulberry, fall-like feel.

So, guess who was doing her nails when she should've been grading exams?  Once I got back to work, I noticed that this blue is a near perfect match to the blue examination booklets!  Oh, the irony!

What do you think of this color?  Do you own a light blue creme?

New York Color: Golden Glam Review

Thanks to the kindness of internet friends, I was able to get Golden Glam, below, and Peach Glam from a mini collection from NYC, New York Color.  I've already complained about 7,295 times that I can't find new releases by NYC around here, so I'll spare you with that rant again....Maybe.

This is two coats of Golden Glam, a reddish, copperish, uber sparkly shade that I can see being a year round color.  You can see some VNL, visible nail line, on my pinky so I probably should've done a third coat.

NYC Golden Glam

Bottle shot!
Bow - failed attempt!
When I posted this on Instagram, someone said it reminded her of Spoiled's Shrimp on the Barbie.  Looking at the swatches from Imperfectly Painted, SotB looks a lot more pink to GG's orange/copper base.

I love NYC Cosmetics and will continue to complain/hope that they come to north Texas soon!

butterLONDON Royal Navy & Project Runway Accent Nails

Lately I've been influenced by what I see on television.  If the Boyfriend and I are debating what to do for dinner and I see a suggestion on TV, I'll blurt it out.  They've got me. THE MAN HAS GOT ME. Subliminal messaging it taking over MY BRAIN. Seriously.

Anyway, when I was watching Project Runway, a designer instructed the MUAH staff to do accent pinkies on both hands.  Neat idea!  I tried out my newest butterLONDON, Royal Navy, and an accent pinky of NYC Broadway Burgundy Frost.

Pinkie accents up! Oh, you fancy, huh?!

The flash and artificial light give this a much more cobalt quality, when in reality this is a superdark polish.  In fact, it is so super dark that I did this mani and decided it needed a new home!  I did a swap with a polish group gal pal, Amy, and am excited for butterLONDON's Rosie Lee to come here!  I hope Amy loves Royal Navy and you know I'll show you Rosie Lee as soon as I can.

It was only the color that make me bid adieu to Royal Navy, the formula is thin but even and opaque in two coats.  The color here is NOT a great representation of the swatch if you're looking for a new addition. This pulls much more cobalt and bright, when it's really a dark, stormy, deep navy in real life.

What do you think?

Revlon Just Bitten Vs. NYC: 16 Hour - 5 Lip Stain Face Off!!

I LOVE LIP STAINS!

I can't wear glosses or lipsticks, especially while teaching, but lip stains are perfect for a hint of color without the buildup of other products.  If you're talking for 2 hours, you need a product that wont pill into the corners of your mouth!

I also love stains because I can try a color I wouldn't normally wear (like maroon!) and try it out.  Stains are buildable, so you can do a light wash of color, or a few layers for a deeper, more pigmented look.  If I decide I LOVE the color, I can add a vibrant gloss for a glossy finish.

I. Love. Lip stains!

From left to right:
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey Douce 001, Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Cherish Devotion 015, Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain AND Balm in Passion, NYC Smudge Proof 16 Hour Stain in Champagne Stain 493, NYC Smudge Proof 16 Hour Stain in Berry Long Time 498

The two Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stains...Cherish on top, Honey bottom.  Both are like a crayon and have a shinnier finish than most stains
Revlon Stain and Balm is double ended w/ a clear balm on the other end and a marker-topped stain.  This is in the middle, the third from bottom, and has a more flat, stain like finish
NYC Champagne Stain, to the left of the shadow
NYC Berry Long Time, swatch closest to product
L to R: Cherish Devotion, Douce Honey, Passion, Champagne Stain, Berry Long Time

Top to Bottom: Berry Long Time, Champagne Stain, Passion, Douce Honey, Cherish Devotion
Since this is a FACEOFF, let's talk about the winner!

I dislike the glossy crayon finish of the Revlon Balm Stains and the other Revlon is not pigmented as much as the NYC stains, although the paper towel swatches really look like they throw that off.

NYC is truly pigmented, smudge proof, and for $5.49 compared to $7.49 - $8.99 for Revlons, I declare NYC the winner!

Are you a stain fan??  Which brands have you tried!?!
