Beauty Blogger Headquarters November Task: How I Got Started Blogging

I was lucky enough to join a group of ladies at the Beauty Blogger Headquarters, begun by Beauty By Krystal.  This is a way for beauty bloggers to get to know more about one another and to help each other out.  I am psyched for this as camaraderie without drama in the polish world seems harder and harder to find...

Anyway, here is November's task!

November's Task: In The Beginning

With the launch of our Beauty Blogger Headquarters, this month's task will be to share how you became a blogger. If you are a daily, weekly or even monthly blogger - we still want to know your beginning story. Here's some questions to get the ball rolling (feel free to add in your own questions/points):
  • How long have you been blogging?
  • What/who inspired you to start blogging?
  • Did you tell your family and friends about your blog? If so, what was their reaction? Are they supportive or "in the dark" about your blogging?
  • What goals or dreams did you have for your blog when you started? Have you accomplished them?
  • If you could give your beginner-blogger-self one tip of advice, what would it be?
  • What is your favorite and least favorite thing about being a blogger?
  • What does your blog name mean? How did you decide on it?

Ok, here goes!  Grab a polish and have a seat!

How long have you been blogging?

As a beauty blogger, I am a newb!  I began MBHM in June, 2012!  I have been creating content on my personal site - www.laceychrystal.com - but that is a History blog.  Not nearly as fun or colorful!

What/who inspired you to start blogging?

Blogging, for me, is a way to connect with others.  It is nice to know I am not looney bin certifiably alone in this addiction!

I began by stalking awesome blogs - big names like Temptalia, and nail focused blogs, like the Trace Face Philes, Holographic Hussey, Lace & Lacquers, Love for Lacquers, and others!  I finally decided to join in the fun.

Blogging is also a way for me to remain accountable.  Believe it or not, I am barely a recovering nail biter.  It's only been a year or so since I would bite my nails down to bloody, painful stubs any time I was stressed.  I am in my late 20's, and it took well over 20 years for my brain to realize that problems didn't get better when my nails hurt - my problems still existed AND my nails hurt.  It's been tough, but I've disconnected that thought pattern and here I am!!

Did you tell your family and friends about your blog? If so, what was their reaction? Are they supportive or "in the dark" about your blogging?

I am so lucky to have a family who supports every thing I do!  Considering most of the people in my family are women, they are extra supportive.  I have told a few, select, friends about MBHM, and I do share the most gorgeous pics I take with my regular Facebook page.  My instagram is a dead giveaway - it is COVERED in nail pics, so there is no explanation needed! LOL.

What goals or dreams did you have for your blog when you started? Have you accomplished them?

I never really had a "goal" in mind for the blog.  I wanted a creative outlet that I had time for and that I enjoyed doing.  When I was little, I was obsessed with nail polish even though I had bloody nub nails.  The obsession got tucked away for years, but it's back in FULL force now.

As I keep blogging, I hope to connect with like-minded people around the WORLD and within the US.  I have been lucky enough to encounter some wonderful people and some international friends as well, so that is truly the best part about blogging so far!

If you could give your beginner-blogger-self one tip of advice, what would it be?

I would have taken better photos and cleaned my cuticles better before snapping the pics! LOL.  I was just thinking about what a better job I do on my nails now - it is all thanks to YOU, my readers!

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about being a blogger?

My favorite thing about blogging is the people - and my least favorite thing about blogging is the people!  I know this resonates with more than a a few of you.  For all the kindness and generosity I have seen, there has also been so much dishonesty, blatant deception  and drama in many of the polish groups on Facebook. I am not sure why we all can't get along, but apparently, we can't.

Oh!  I also feel guilty about doing my nails every other day or so, when I should be doing school work...Ugh...Like now...

What does your blog name mean? How did you decide on it?

My blog name comes from the truth!!

I have been with my boyfriend for over four years.  He is totally the "you look better with no makeup" type of guy who doesn't notice when I doll it up.  He DOES, however, notice when I reach for a scented lotion or perfume, especially in the car.  If lip gloss gets on him, forget it!

I also think it is funny and that is makes me relatable   I know I'm not the only girl who's significant other prefers them makeup and product free!  I'd have to club and drag my boyfriend to get him into a Sephora or Ulta!!

Thaaaaat's it for now!  Check out the rest of this month's entries on Beauty Blogger Headquarters and I'll be back with another similar post next month!

Thanks for reading!
xoxo,
Lacey C

  1. Nail polish is currently one of my biggest obsession. I also enjoy connecting with others who share the same interest and passion. I think the name of your blog is so cute. I've only had one boyfriend who really hated makeup. If I was wearing lipgloss or lipstick, he would literally wipe it off before a kiss, lol.

Zoya Sophisticates

The Zoya Sophisticates collection is here! There are two "pearl" shades, two "metallic" shades, and 8 creme shades. Let me show you each one! I am going to lift the description from the site, LOL. #lazyblogger

But first, group shot:

Zoya McKenna: "refined pearl in a soft almond" is the description of this polish. It does have a "pearl" like finish to it, but it is very subtle. Watch those brush strokes though, they can show if you're not careful.

Zoya Tabitha: this is the other "pearl" polish but in a hunter green. I actually liked this shade more than I thought I would! The pearl finish makes it quite unique...but, oh boy, those brush strokes! Two coats shown here.

Zoya Gal: No doubt, this baby is named after Gal Gadot, aka Wonderwoman! I wish they had given her a more powerful color, because this one is lame-o. Zoya describes this as a "smokey, iridescent, peridot gold metallic." Ugly, LOL. My camera didn't like it and…

Lip Slut: F*ck Trump Liquid Lipstick!

Perhaps I will lose a few followers for this, but I am over it. Trump is an awful President. He does not care to unite the country, and, quite the opposite, seeks to divide people from their neighbors and loved ones.

In response to his ridiculous response to the Aug 11-12 events in Charlottesville, Virginia, Lip Slut decided to send some of the proceeds from their now infamous F*ck Trump lipstick to those who suffered.

Honestly, this product has been for sales since November 2016. I didn't buy it then because I hoped (and prayed and hoped and prayed) that, if he were elected, Trump would be great...

So, lemme show ya my new lippie, k?

I wasn't expecting the formula to be great...BUT IT IS!

The color is quite universally flattering, I would think. The formula feels like a Colour Pop matte to me, and the staying powder is great. Win, win!

PS: Fuck Trump!
